I free floated it yes. My reloading is very precise im certain its not that. Im very good with my mitutoyo calipers.

Wind/mirage are also important factors beyond 800 yards. Check out tiborasaurus rexs sniper 101 on youtube he covers everything from a-z in long range shooting. Ive learnt a ton but unfortunately im still looking for good groups at 100 yards!

Never had to worry about this with my winchester brass. Neck sized only new unfired brass and reloaded 4 times, neck sized only, always chambered easily.

Gotta say it's a little deceiving when the (expensive) Nosler brass box says “Fully prepped, ready to load”.

It seems to chamber the round with enough force, like 5 lbs. Is this safe to shoot?

I tried both an empty and loaded cartridge and can force them down with some resistance. A factory Remington round will chamber easily. Should I be concerned? All dimensions are below spec.

I sanded the inside of my barrel channel to better free float my barrel, and while re-finishing it with polyurethane, I made sure to get some in the recoil lug channel, and inserted the lug in there to squeeze out the excess (and washed the lug after of course). Now it fits very snug. I'm hoping all this will solve my accuracy problem with the 270win.

Have you guys tried the limbsaver? Made a huge difference on my 270 win. Pushes instead of kick.

I was under the impression a laminate stock was stiffer but i can easily bend it by squeezing the end of it when i grab it and the muzzle. Im sure its just pine because its very light.

There are many advantages of using an FFP scope for long range hunting and target shooting. Why wouldn't you have any use for an FFP scope if you're shooting long range?

The lug is loose in both the stock and barrel.

Yes there are aftermarket bottom metals for $200-$300 but I'm not sure you'd be saving much on mags after that lol.

Gotta say Lumley Arms is trying to make it right for me he will send me an oversized lug if I give him my address. I ended up ordering the Mountain Tactical version and they say its .240″ so that would give me .002″ play between action mortise and lug.

I haven't tried the gun with the new lug and I don't really see the point.

Six replies and not a single one with measurements. If anyone out there has a dial caliper, could I get the stock lug thickness and if you have an aftermarket one, that dimension as well? Thank you!

Will tikka do anything about a damaged recoil lug? Do they have difference sized lugs? I don't quite understand if everyone has the same problem why would they make it this way?

You don't need to get a new mag, you can easily modify yours. There are writeups on how to. You can pull your mag apart if you look at the two pins on each side near the bottom. I pried mine apart using my hulk strength 😉

I purchased my flash hole deburring tool today. I removed a total of 2 grains of brass from 90 bullets. Hopefully that makes a difference!

The hodgdon reloading data centre must specify IMR4350 and H4350 loads separately for a reason. They have different velocites, so I would guess there is a difference somewhere. Differing granule size makes sense, since they do share the same MSDS sheet.

If you are in the USA I can't help as to where to get the varmint version of the tikka, but in my area (Toronto Canada) pretty much all the local stores, cabelas, bass pro, all have or can order a varmint barrel. I'd be surprised if there was less selection at USA retailers.

If any powder should be consistent it should be H4350.

Would you say the same about IMR4350?

After firing 90 more rounds yesterday I've decided 2lbs seems just fine for me. I'm still used to my Enfield's 10lbs trigger. I like how I can just barely feel it setting before the squeeze makes it go boom.

Flash hole deburring I never knew there was such a thing! I gave it a shot with a 1/4″ drill bit but it didn't do a great job, more like compressed the burr and shaved a bit off. I guess I need to get the proper tool.

You could purposely shoot with your eyes on the edge of your reticule to see just how much of an error you actually get. I think I might just try that myself.

I think your muzzle brake may be helping with accuracy because of the reduced recoil and increased rigidity. I shot 90 rounds today and my first 30 were my lower charges and they all shot 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch 3 shot groups.

Birddog, I have the same scope as yours (blackhawk version but identical). First, focus your reticle till crisp. Then adjust parallax according to your range (100 yards in your case). Your parallax should not be noticeable.

I was not measuring anything, just eyeballing. It could very well be shooter psychology. I am much more focused shooting 300 yards than 100. I just enjoy it more so put more effort into it, now that I think of it.
