Disapointed in the Lumley Arms Recoil Lug!
Posted by TorontoAlex on September 6, 2015 at 2:59 pmI paid $30 + $16 shipping for a Lumley Arms recoil lug from Coretac Solutions and it's basically the same sloppy fit. I'm pissed as I had my hopes up that this would solve my accuracy issues. Can anyone recommend something that fits snug?
My aluminum recoil lug measures .237″ and the lumley lug measures .237″. Both the stock and the barrel measure .243″. Can you guys give me some of your measurements?

Will tikka do anything about a damaged recoil lug? Do they have difference sized lugs? I don't quite understand if everyone has the same problem why would they make it this way?

I'd hazard a guess that my new .223 Varmint will never damage AT ALL the factory recoil lug. 8) Since I'm shooting in the mid 3s with bulk ammo that I loaded for my ARs, I'm pleasantly shocked at my new Tikka's accuracy! ;D

Solved. Mine fits perfectly, and very snug.

My post probably should have been a question, rather than a statement. Why would a .223 require a steel recoil lug? 😀

$16 shipping for a recoil lug! I just paid $22 to ship a barreled action to my gunsmith. Anyway, you want a tight fit in the stock mortise and a little play in the lug recess of the action. You could get an oversize lug to replace the one you bought, or you could bed the action and lug, which will fix the lug in place. It's not nearly as easy to bed a T3 as it is to do a Rem 700, so research carefully if you go down this route (or get someone to do it for you).

You still having issues with the gun? Nothings changed?

I haven't tried the gun with the new lug and I don't really see the point.
Six replies and not a single one with measurements. If anyone out there has a dial caliper, could I get the stock lug thickness and if you have an aftermarket one, that dimension as well? Thank you!

Alex, Did you try to discuss this with the vendor or the manufacturer? Were they helpful and/or try to give you full refund before you start trashing them on the forum?

I'm not trashing anyone I simply stated the truth: sloppy fit. Doesn't mean anyone did anything wrong it just means the product isn't fitting in my gun. I understand everything has tolerances, maybe my gun was machined a bit wider.
I did contact them both and CoreTac offered a full refund. Lumley also replied and offered to send a slightly thicker lug from one of his first batches.
I bought some feeler gauges and the .004 fit perfect so a perfect fit is .242″ (my mic was off and the actual measurement for the new Lumley lug was .238″)
Would it be a bad idea to glue a steel shim to the new Titanium lug and drop that it? I bought crazy / super glue in hopes I could solve the free play issue this way.

There should be some play in the fit between the action recess and the lug, but not with the fit of the lug into the stock mortise. I think superglue would break as its too brittle.

Sorry OP…I thought you were having issues with fit to the action, not the stock.
I removed my previous post. You could always swap out the stock for another factory stock with a better fitting lug and see if that makes a difference. I could help you out with that if you want to try it…

Gotta say Lumley Arms is trying to make it right for me he will send me an oversized lug if I give him my address. I ended up ordering the Mountain Tactical version and they say its .240″ so that would give me .002″ play between action mortise and lug.
How much play do you recommend between the lug and action. And why should there be any play???
I looked up devcon and it looks like they have many types of glue. Which one should i use?
