Still no more accurate.
Posted by TorontoAlex on February 21, 2016 at 6:45 pmI just cleaned my gun after 500 rounds to see if the copper equilibrium theory was bs and added a bipod instead of using front sand bags. Lumley recoil lug, have tried all kinds of loads with my 130gr sst. Bought a proper torque driver and torqued everything to spec. My groups are still erratic. 1″ isn't bad but sometimes they are 1 1/2″ at 100 yards. That's still a dead deer/moose at 300 but I'm just wondering if there are other easy things I can do to improve accuracy, yet keep the rifle light.
I read somewhere here that somebody torqued the (plastic) bottom metal to 50 in.lbs. Should I do this or do I risk cracking the plastic?
I was watching a guy with a heavier 700 shoot on the same bench as mine yesterday. Hi gun barely moved when he shot it. Is my .270win lite too lite??? It does jump quite a bit as I loose sight of target every time I shoot.
Someone also mentioned just seating the bullet to factory spec instead of getting as close to the lands as possible so I've reseated all my rounds to see if that makes a difference.
Any tips greatly appreciated.

A lite gun will jump more the a heavy one , could it be you ? , try some different heads , one head that works in one rifle might not work in another

I was excited when i shot i first 2 3 shot groups after reseating my projectiles to factory spec. Both .75 inch but then they opened up the rest of the day. I let it cool 5-15 minutes and doesnt seem to make a difference. Could just be me but after 600+ rounds id think im ok. Replaced front bags with bipod thinking added weight would help. Rear bag still there and sights are always stable on target. I position myself the same each time and hold the rifle on the same place on shoulder still nothing. I dont flinch i know that.
Whats a head?

No offence, but I think this might be more a shooter / reloading problem then gun accuracy problems…
If you review all your previous post on this topic you have already reduced your group size considerably to almost an MOA shooter so maybe its not the gun…you had to be doing some things wrong before for it to be shooting as poorly as it did, and now you changed some things up and accuracy is getting better…so maybe there are a few things that still need to be improved.Have you free floated the barrel….it needs to be done if you are reloading and shooting off any bench bag or bi-pod.
As mentioned before, I have a lot of experience with these guns and would do a range day with you to help find the issue…I'm in Toronto.

I free floated it yes. My reloading is very precise im certain its not that. Im very good with my mitutoyo calipers.
Id love to spend a day with a good shooter! Im in oshawa and have a membership. If you are a member somewhere lemme knkw ill go to your range and let you have a go with my gun so you can tell me my shooting sucks. Id be happy to hear that lol over u telling me the gun sucks.

There is a post on Accurate shooter on shooting “bugholes” using a bipod. http://www.accurateshooter.com/shooting-skills/bugholes-from-bipod/ .
Things like loading the bipod and proper rear bag use make a big difference. You should not see a lot of hop at the shot. Personally I find technique is even more important when shooting off a bipod than off sandbags.Good luck!

check your crown for dents or anything else that would make it not 100%
have you let some one else shoot your gun?
