OACL for Tikka T3 .243
Posted by Whitecloud on April 22, 2015 at 2:51 pmDoes anyone have the OACL for 95 gr. NBT in .243 in the Tikka T3? I keep reading the Tikka's have a long leade and that a 30-06 based magazine may need to be utilized to load close to the lands…

Hi you need to measure your own rifle to see how close to the lands you can get , has each rifle is different due to manufacturing tolerances

Understood,… I did attempt to do that and got mixed results with measurements falling on the fence in regards to whether or not the long action mags would be of help. Many comments on the web (always taken with grain of salt) suggest that Tikka's in general have a long leade. Was just wondering if there was a general consensus among Tikka T3 243 owners that the leade is long enough to justify the use of the long action mag when loading the longer bullets in order to maintain usable powder space. I appreciate your response and you are correct. I fully intend to get a accurate length measured prior to any loading. At this point I'm contemplating setting funds aside for the long action mags and consider this a “preliminary” inquiry.

You don't need to get a new mag, you can easily modify yours. There are writeups on how to. You can pull your mag apart if you look at the two pins on each side near the bottom. I pried mine apart using my hulk strength 😉
I don't have a 243 so can't help on oal length. I'm sure all tikkas are close to each other but it's a good idea to get 5-10 measurements.
