It would be very easy to just buy a 25-06 or a 270 and send it off to JES to get rebored to .280. It will cost 250 I believe. I had him bore a 35 whelen from a 30-06 and it shoots awesome groups.

I bore snake every gun I one including pistols. My guns never get dirty enough to need anything more except for my muzzleloader. I also have a bore snake exclusively for my muzzleloader for when I'm at the range checking zero. Once I'm done at the range I use a brush and bore buster in the barrel.

Finally got a load worked up for the Whelen.

After much invested time, it shoots slightly better than the hornady ammo I have previously shot thorough the rifle. Only difference is I'm using 250gr bullets instead of the 200gr that hornady uses. I can't wait to get my suppressor so I can try it out on her.She likes 54.6gr of varget over a 250gr Hornady interlock SP. I still need to pull out the chrono so I cant get my CDS turrets ordered.
Heres a 6 shot group with the cold bore shot being the stray. Not to bad since a bullet side by side is .70in and it only has a 16″ barrel.

I have a hst 6-24 ffp and I honestly don't like the ffp for long distance shooting. The reticle stays the same size which covers up the target at long range. I think it's good for hunting but for shooting paper it's tough. I have a leupold mark ar 6-18 and it's much clearer and I can shoot much better groups with it. I kept from getting a vortex for the longest time but the hype finally got to me and I had to get one. The scope itself is great. The turrets are awesome and the design is good but I'm just not a fan of the glass. I think I might sell mine and go with another leupold.

I get an email back from kantrol and the owner explained that this is normal wear and its just starting to break in. What looks like cracks are actually steps from the brake being machines from both sides.
I was told once the carbon and copper start to bonding to the surface that the erosion will stop. I guess that means I need to stop cleaning it. :-[ I have been assured however that this brake will outlast my rifle barrel.

I went ahead a bought a cheap 30 cal muzzlebrake and opened it up for the .35 caliber while I wait for my suppressor to arrive. Hopefully I can get out this weekend and test more loads.

The barrel will be re-bored to 6.5 and installed on a 30-06 action. End result, 6.5 creedmoor heavy barrel rifle

I shoot from two sand bags while testing loads but really wish I had a sled. I'm back in town this week and will test some new loads to see if that helps. Its been killing me being away for almost 3 weeks and thinking about how my new loads will shoot.

If its a gun you plan on keeping the rest of your life because you love it that much then go for it. They say you lose 30fps for every inch cut off the barrel so if you can handle the reduced muzzle velocity. I have a T3 35 whelen with a 16″ barrel. Will I be able to sell the gun? Probably because its a unique caliber, but will I…NO. I like it because its compact and with a suppressor on it the overall length will be 22 inches. If you do climbing tree stand hunting a 30″+ barrel might be a little long to maneuver around. I didn't mind losing velocity because I wanted a lower velocity bullet.

I have about 200 rounds through a 300wm kantrol brake with no sign of falling off. However, there is sign that the metal has melted around the baffle holes. I've email the company and I'm awaiting a response.

I ended up using one of these and it works great on my 300wm. I think it weights 4oz.
