Suppressor on a T3 Lite Barrel
Posted by Mcrosno on March 15, 2015 at 4:36 amI just ordered a 30 cal Thunder Beast suppressor that I plan to use on multiple rifles. One of the main ones will be a T3 Lite stainless in 300 WSM with a factory barrel. With their current CB mount system their specs call out for a 9/16-24 thread if the muzzle diameter is .662 or greater. I found a post on here that states all T3 Lites have a muzzle diameter of .620. Does anyone know if the 9/16-24 thread will work, or will I have to get the barrel cut shorter to make this happen?

I just measured the barrel on my 300wsm…my gunsmith did cut the Lite barrel to 23.5″ to make the 9/16-24 threads work for the muzzle brake I added. I barely noticed any different on the chronograph with the chop.
Here's a pic…

Would you keep the barrel as long as possible adding a 7″ suppressor to it or would you cut it any shorter?

I'd keep it as long as possible just in case you ever decide to part with it or shoot without the suppressor.
Much easier to sell if you haven't chopped the barrel too much. For my experience reducing the overall length by .5″-1″ for proper threading has never hurt resale value. If you chop it too much you might as well be shooting a smaller caliber with threaded 20″ factory barrels. Thats just my opinion though…I know a few guys that have a 300wm with 20″ barrels and they'd sell the wife before the gun.

If its a gun you plan on keeping the rest of your life because you love it that much then go for it. They say you lose 30fps for every inch cut off the barrel so if you can handle the reduced muzzle velocity. I have a T3 35 whelen with a 16″ barrel. Will I be able to sell the gun? Probably because its a unique caliber, but will I…NO. I like it because its compact and with a suppressor on it the overall length will be 22 inches. If you do climbing tree stand hunting a 30″+ barrel might be a little long to maneuver around. I didn't mind losing velocity because I wanted a lower velocity bullet.

Depending on why you want to suppress it, I opt for performance. if it matters, you will have a hard time finding a soft case that fits a 31″ barrel lol.

I do plan to keep this gun for awhile. I purchased the suppressor to increase the shooting pleasure and for recoil reduction of my rifles. I use a Sako 75 Finnlight in 6.5×55 for the majority of my hunting so I won't be climbing tree stands with it. I will shoot the Tikka mostly for fun and take it if I get an opportunity to go out west at some point. The suppressor screws on to their CB mount so transporting without it screwed in place shouldn't be a problem.
I'm thinking I will probably cut an inch or two to keep the velocity up there.
