The gun looks great, really nice combo!
If it shoots as good as it looks you will have no trouble delivering the hurt on a few yotes.Send some load data when you get it worked out. Really interested to see how fast you can throw the 75-80gr pills….

You will love the 75gr Amax for coyotes…they hit like a freight train and I'm only shooting them at 2900fps out of a 223…they will scream out of your build. Cool project.
Let us know how the new barrel shoots when you get some trigger time in.

These numbers sound great, I was wondering if you would get in the 3000fps range.
Keep us posted as you progress through load development.Once you get a good load get some range groups for us.

You will need a ring that is .9″ – 1.0″…scope centre to base…I use the PRW Leupold rings in medium if you want to look those up. I think the centre of scope to base is .97″ if memory is correct with medium 30mm ring.
If you have a MT rail or EGW base this combo will give 1/4 – 3/8 clearance on 50mm objective bell on a sporter barrel…and 3/16″ – 1/4 clearance on Varmint / Palma style contour…The MT base seems to be slightly thicker then the EGW base and will give you the least amount of space but they only vary about 1/32″ between the 2…
Heres what a VIPER HSLR 6-24×50 (pretty much same size as your PST) looks like with a MT rail / PRW Medium ring setup on both Tikka Sporter (MT 20moa base) and Varmint model (MT 0moa base cut back to receiver length)…

I've had misfires with “Superformance” only, no issues with any of Hornady's other ammo.
SST 308 gave me more misfires in 3 boxes of ammo, then I have experienced in all my shooting combined.
Its the only ammo that has misfired in both my 308 Tikka Battue and also 308 CTR.I've had a few misfires with 223 Superformance as well but can honestly say its been only 2-3rds out of about 300rds I have purchased.
Have not had any issue with all Federal, Winchester, Barnes or Nosler factory ammo that I would regularly buy and shoot when not handloading. Firing pins have been checked and no issues, only repeating misfires have been with this Superformance brand of Hornady ammo.
The SST 308 ammo was shot last year (have not bought it since) in temps around 0 to -10 “celcius” at an elevation of about 500-1000ft…

I've had similar issues with 308 Superformance SST and 223 Superformance ammo.
Its the only brand/type of ammo I've had misfires….Mostly in 308.Firing pin was not the issue…I don't buy the Superformance line of ammo anymore.
Do a google search on “Hornady SST misfires” and you will be shocked at the number of forum boards discussing this very topic. Everyone tends to think firing pins are the first problem but its usually points back to the ammo.

Copied from another thread…the spring pressure is not the issue, the release catch and mag slot is at a terrible angle from the factory, does not allow a good seating position for the release in the mag…this fix works:

Does not effect the feed at all….just gives the spring release a better angle to secure the mag without play or sloppy movement. You really are only making a minor adjustment that greatly improves the holding function of the release. Don't go crazy, small movements and test fit, there is a point where the mag will lose the sloppy movement yet still release and function as its supposed to…bend / open the slot too far and the mag may be sticky on release. If you shoot a lot you may have to do this again but mine is holding fine even after a couple hundred rounds of what I would consider higher recoiling hot loads.

Dog Down!, Did you hear of a fix to the mag release spring not holding mag under recoil? My CTR did the same thing over the weekend and I'm not sure if it was the cold or the spring itself.
Anyone have recommendations on how to fix?

Its not the cold effecting the mag…its the setting depth of the release. Tikka should really address this and fix the issue.
Here's the thread I replied to which helped guys secure & seat the release a little better. Literally takes more time to find the screw driver…its worked for my gun and a few others on the forum.

You are not the only one having issues with Hornady ammo…And Tikka's are not the only guns having this issue…
I've personally had a lot of misfires with Hornady “Superformance” ammo in cold weather…223 & 308…most guys think its the factory primer and I tend to agree with this, since I have no issues with my firing pins. I don't buy it any more and have not had any other brand of ammo give me the same problems with misfires…I only experienced this in their “Superformance” line of ammo.
Let us know how the gun fires after you change out the firing pin…this will be a good study on before and after results.

I own a CTR 308…
– Most accurate 308 I've shot with handloads…will shoot 1moa or better with just about any ammo you run through the gun.
– The factory barrel is awesome, no complaints at all.
– Factory stock is sub par compared to action and barrel…a chassis system or good aftermarket stock will improve the gun even more.
– Factory mag is well built but there are issues with the mag release spring not holding mag in place under recoil. Simple mag mod fixes the issue but they are still over priced and this issue should be addressed by Tikka/Sako..
– Gun should come with a 20moa base standard or as an option….wish this was the case.
If you are going to re-barrel in the future to a 6.5… I would just get the 260 CTR factory option and save the funds for a good aftermarket stock…but thats just my opinion. I see no real distinguishable difference between a 6.5 or 260 in any I have shot with a good reload. The 260 as the advantage for available off the shelf ammo if you are not a reloader.

I'm also interested in the MV you will be getting with the load you work up.
I've got a 223 Lite sitting in the safe that will get a new barrel for dedicated range use soon, I'd really appreciate any data you can share on your load develop for your setup with the 30″ tube before I start the project.I'm currently shooting Berger 80.5 fullbores out of my varmint model with great results out too 800-900yrds.
It will usually hold 1moa or better depending on wind with Varget (24.2gr) @ about 2850fps…
Even though the varmint shoots great, I'd like a gun setup specific for 75gr-80gr Amax or 80.5 Bergers long range shooting…Send me some info when you get some range results.
