Shot the CTR this weekend to test the new stock. Very happy.

POI change from factory stock to Boyds was almost 1″ low and 1″ left with sighter.

Not that bad, I was expecting it to be off by a lot more.

Adjusted scope and shot a 3 shot group..This rife is used for hunting so not worried about 5 shot groups.

First group with factory Hornady 178grn ELDx ammo was .3″…pretty good!

A<font face=”inherit”>ll other groups shot about the same to .5″, </font>consistent<font face=”inherit”> 1/2 moa </font>groups on the day with this ammo.

Have not run any handloads through the rifle yet so have high hopes for 1/4 -1/2 moa with my loads shooting the same projectile.

For the the rear stud…remove and epoxy fill the hole and install it on the side.

These work great on synthectic stocks.

That 7mm Mag barrel will be pretty hot after more than 3 conservative shots. <font face=”inherit”>Not uncommon for this caliber to lose accuracy over a string of multiple shots especially if </font>shooting<font face=”inherit”> a lite barrel. </font>

Try 3 cold bore shots and report back.

If you are planning on reloading…this recipe will win you a lot of matches, and bring a grin to your face every time you go to the range.  Tested and retested in “all” TIKKA 1/8 twist rifles variants.
Just make sure the Amax projectiles are all centric (read the entire thread).  You may have to fine tune but this is a very accurate starting point.

I modified 1 of mags to accept this load for both range and hunting situations but if you are only range or competition shooting just single load.

Its really the other way around…

Tikka rifles are basically a stripped down where they can cheaper version of the Sako platform.
Sako offers both a true long and short action where Tikka is built on a long action.
Sako has other improvements on the bolt, and gives you a 3 position safety where Tikka is only a 2 position.

Tikka is Sako's budget brand that is a great performing rifle on its own without the price tag of its big brother.

I think he means the platform came from the T3 but all aspects are improved for the Sako line.

I just ordered the S20 this past week in 6.5 CM…really looking forward to this gun.

Regarding the PRU…I meant if they built it they would have sold all these as well…I know a lot of guys that love the Tikka action but have bought other rifles because they didn't like the synthetic stock.  if they had this offering years ago they would have increased their sales even more.

Hey Eric,

If I was rebuilding or re-barreling a 7mm Mag (me being bias) I would most likely go with the 7LRM for these reasons:
– Good barrel life…expect close to 2000rds depending on how hot you are loading.
– Better proven accuracy than the 7mm Mag…lots of data to support it in the reloading community.
– Better performance than the 7mm Mag, especially with 180gr projectiles.
– No real noticeable recoil increase form 7mm Mag.
– Non belted case for hand loading, brass is now more available.
– Longer case neck for projectile support, great for tuning seating depth.
– The case design feeds very well in all rifles with long projectiles.

The 7LRM is a hand loaders dream for performance in my opinion but again all this gun stuff is fun to play with. This is what i would do, but I'd throughly enjoy hearing about your 7mm practical if you decide to do it.  There's no wrong direction as long as you are happy with the result.

They should have been making the UPR years ago…they would have sold more rifles.
I hope they go to a full plastic or carbon fibre mag on the CTR platform.  The metal mags are greatly overpriced for an item that rust very easy with a terrible spring.

Whats your main purpose for this rifle? barrel life would be a big decision factor for me.

Its heavier, but don’t have any exact numbers from a scale to share.

I’ve spent good money on stocks over the years and while they have performed they cost a lot!

I got the same performance out of this $100us Spike camp stock as I have with $600us stocks.

Its obviously not a high end stock but for a hunting rifle that will get dinged and scratched I totally endorse it. The fit is excellent, and it really does make the rifle easier to get on target while standing, tracking targets, etc…You won’t be disappointed. Just order the AT-1 1″ butt pad with it to change for better length of pull…its also pretty darn stiff and I truly believe after shooting it that the laminated layers of the stock really absorbs the harmonics of the gun making it more accurate. I’ve got a 308 CTR with a $100 stock that shoots factory ammo below .5 moa…most groups just over .25…cant beat that. The true test will be my 300wsm this weekend. Gun was 1-1.5moa with Winchester Deer XP before so if I get .5-1″ groups out the this gun now you know the stock is completely worth it.

Totally surprised it worked out as good as it did. I had pans that I would immediately pillar bed the stocks to start off but for know will just shoot as is. The 308 accuracy with the Hornady ELDx is spot on, just so happens to be my go to hunting round so happy about that. Will try some of the proven handholds for this barrel later this fall.

Testing the 300wsm this weekend. Hope it shoots as good with Winchester Deer Xp.

This is pretty much my setup for my long range guns…no issues at all but Tier 1 mounts are pretty nice to have if you want to spend the money.
