my tikka’s are finally dressed for battle in F-Class
I've been shooting in F-standard in Australia for a year or two now, competing with a t3 varmint 1:8 223 . From what i understand it's unique to Australia (f-standard), shot at distances of 400-1000yds, and is limited to 223 and 308 with max bullet weights of 81gn and 156gn respectively. the little tikka, looked like a an ant carrying a bread crumb when topped with the nightforce br12-42, and a toy compared to the massive rigs most used, but performed admirably with the common combination of 80gr vld/lapua brass/br4/2206h powder ( i think its sold your way as h4895). But whilst i shot some scores I was happy with out to 900, the last step to 1000 saw my scores drop dramatically. South East Queensland is renowned for its coastal strong gust wind and the little pills struggled.
I had a t3 lite 308 for doing some hunting but i rarely get the chance to go, and am fortunate to have one of the best 1000yd ranges less than 10 minutes from my house, 20mins from Brisbane CBD! So i saved up and had both modified to suit this new endeavour .
The 308 grew a 30″ #7 1:12 ( remember 155gn) s/steel Maddco barrel, an xlr evolution stock, trued action ( barely – the gunsmith who chambered and fitted the barrels on both guns remarked that tikka actions are usually great from the get go), lightened trigger spring, night force br12-42 scope, vortex anti cant bubble level, vortex extra high 30mm tactical rings, and a versapod. I'm making my own “joystick bipod” so the versapod is thrown on until i get that ready . its almost finished , just waiting on the attachment for the rail to arrive.
The 223 grew a 30″ med palma krieger 1:7.7t s/steel barrel, lss xl chassis, magpul prs stock, another versapod, and it wears my other scope for now – vortex viper pst sip 4-16.
finally got them together so it's off to the range on friday to work up some loads. I'll still be using 2206h/lapua brass ( lapua palma small primer brass for 308)/br4 primers/ berger 80grvld/155.5gn fullbore projectiles which worked great in the past, but will also experiment with 2208 ( Varget).
p.s. not sure why my pictures are upside down. i uploaded normal ones ….
