I've had good results from 110gr Vmax to 180gr TTSX.  I reload and I know it won't help much, but your best bet would be to go to the shop, pick up a bunch of different boxes and start pulling the trigger.  Should give you an idea what your gun likes.

Once you find a load for this, expect tighter group than that at 200.  Got kinda bored with its accuracy, and loaded some 110gr Vmax for the 300wm, and still stupid accurate, just a bit faster than the usual 180gr.  Should vaporize a few woodchucks come spring.

I have the dame VX-3i you are looking to get on my T3 300 and LOVE it.  I like it quite a bit more than my PST 4-16……

I have a T3 Lite in .243 and really like it.  My hunting partners all have rifles of various makes in .300 WM and I've been thinking about getting one, but I don't want to deal with a muzzle break and I'd prefer to stick with a Tikka.  Anyone know how the heavier Tikkas (Hunter models) in .243 compare with respect to felt recoil?

I wouldn't go with anything bigger than a .243 if you are concerned about recoil….

I have and use the Lee factory Crimp die.  I haven't really tested different variances in my crimps, but from what I have read both on crimps and on the dies, these give a more consistent crimp than some other dies.  Realistically, you don't necessarily need a lot of crimp if you have a bolt, so I stick with a lighter crimp.  But depending on the type of bullet you use, you may need to crimp.  not much experience here, so someone else can chime in on that.

Which magazine are you using?  the plastic one on something like the Lite? or the CTR mag.  In my 260 CTR, my cartridge OAL is 2.915 and still fits in stock mag.

Have a T3 Lite 300WM and threw a Tactical break on it from harrellsprec.com.  Small, lite, and effective enough.  Kind of ugly when I bought the break.  It needed to be turned, blasted and tapered to match the barrel better.  I reload, so can't really speak of any factory ammo.

If you reload, look at the 260.  Very similar ballistics and no shortage of brass (if you resize .308).  Plus, Lapua makes it.  Got mine at Whittakerguns.com for under $850….have them in stock too….

I'm sure when he pulls the trigger on an elk, he won't feel any recoil.  I know I didn't on my T3 Lite 300Win.  The elk sure felt it though…..
