New Owner Tikka T3X .300WM
Posted by BluTek on October 18, 2016 at 11:48 pmHello Crew,
I just purchased a new T3X and found a wealth of knowledge already on this forum from several members!
However, I still had some questions I was hoping you all could help me with.
1) I'd like to put a brake on it for obvious reasons 😉 Has anyone here put a brake on their T3X chambered in .300 WM? If so, I'd love to hear what you went with.
2) What factory ammunition have you had the best accuracy with?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Have a T3 Lite 300WM and threw a Tactical break on it from harrellsprec.com. Small, lite, and effective enough. Kind of ugly when I bought the break. It needed to be turned, blasted and tapered to match the barrel better. I reload, so can't really speak of any factory ammo.

Here's the one I settled on for my 300wsm…I tested a few designs and this was by far the best brake for both recoil reduction and accuracy…Quatromax Muzzle Brake…
No muzzle jump, straight recoil and it tames the gun with 180-200gr handloads down to what seems like a 223-243…But its friggin LOUD!!! -

I just bought the exact same gun! I have a Witt machine, clamp on muzzle brake, coming in he mail right now. My buddy has the same brake on his t3 lite 300 wm, and when shooting it you can't help but be impressed. The recoil is dramatically reduced, the only downside for some is how bulky and heavy the brake is. As for ammo, im going with the new Hornady percision hunter which has a 200 gr eld-x bullet. I've heard good things about these factory loads and will let you know how they shoot out of the T3x.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions!
In my research I ran across Terminator Brakes and was looking at the T2 which is $200. Watching the YouTube video comparisons against other well know brakes I was impressed!
I'd welcome any other suggestions.

Don't fire a tikka light in 300 WM without a brake – just my advice
It will kick like a mule and a brake will make things way more manageable.

I have a T3 Lite in .243 and really like it. My hunting partners all have rifles of various makes in .300 WM and I've been thinking about getting one, but I don't want to deal with a muzzle break and I'd prefer to stick with a Tikka. Anyone know how the heavier Tikkas (Hunter models) in .243 compare with respect to felt recoil?

I wouldn't go with anything bigger than a .243 if you are concerned about recoil….

I've actually found my Tikka Lite .300 to be quite manageable without the brake and I'm an average sized guy. I do plan to add one though. To clarify, I'm also not shooting dozens and dozens of rounds – which would indeed wear the shoulder considerably and no doubt impact accuracy. Â
I did install a Limbsaver recoil pad though I'm a firm believer that proper form and consistent shooting are the biggest contributing factors when shooting any firearm.Â

Hey six shooter you are mostly right. If a person can handle the recoil, a limbsaver butt pad can make a tikka T3 light in 300 WM shootable.
A mountain tactical muzzle brake will make that same gun enjoyable to shoot (but crazy loud).
Now what is the compromise?Buy now a suppressor if you can – best of all worlds.
