I use Lapua brass in my .260 CTR with no problems at all. I highly recommend Lapua brass over any of the other brands I have tried.

I'm glad you had some fun shooting it before you had to send it back. That does take the fun out of it. Keep us posted on how they treat you on the warranty repair.

Thanks, I think I will try the RL17 in mine next.

Those are some nice groups! What bullet are you using? I would be interested in what kind of velocities you get with RL17 and the 20″ barrel in the CTR. I also have the CTR in .260. I have been using IMR4350 with 140 Nosler Custom Competitions. Accuracy is excellent but I haven't worked up to the velocity I expect yet.

I think you will like your CTR. I have one in .260 that is working out great. Sounds like you have an awesome set up for shooting. Enjoy your new rifle.

I put a muzzle brake on my CTR in .260 and if anything accuracy was improved. I have only tried it on one load however but have shot a .35″ 5 shot group with it. I also suspected that I might need to re-tune my load but that was not the case. You can see photos of the brake and the group in the general discussion section in a thread called “hunter .243 recoil”. I put the brake on to increase the ability to see impacts after the shot since the recoil was already pretty mild.

The recoil is pretty much straight back now and pretty mild. I haven't shot off of a bipod yet. I think I will be able to watch my own impacts at least at longer ranges.

I just got back from the range after installing a muzzle brake on my CTR in .260. Recoil is dramatically reduced. I know it is somewhat subjective but the recoil on the bags is much more manageable than my 6.5×47 Lapua that weighs 13.5 lbs. POI was about 1.5 moa higher and 0.5 moa left of the same load without the brake. After I got it sighted in I shot the best 5 shot group yet from the rifle. I attempted to attach a couple of photos.

There is a really nice article on the Long Range Hunter forum on building a low cost long range rifle from a Savage where the guy makes significant mods to the injection molded stock. I don't remember the exact name of the article but you can find it if you search the articles index.

I ordered a 4 port .875 muzzle break pre-threaded 5/8 x 24 from Nathan at
http://www.muzzlebrakesandmore.com
He only charges $45 shipped.
It came within a week and looks great. It matched right up to the threads on my CTR.
They come set up for 6mm and since doesn't have ports on the bottom will need to be timed.
I hope to get it reamed for .260, timed and contoured to match my barrel this weekend.
I will keep you posted on how it works out.

I have a new CTR in .260 as well. Amazing rifle! The only load work up I have done was 140g Nosler Custom Competitions with IMR4350. I worked up using the book loads in the Nosler #7 manual and found best accuracy at 40.8 grains (Lapua brass). I have already gotten a couple of 5 shot 1/2 groups with this load. I also have a couple of custom rifles that are lucky to match those groups in the entire time I have had them. Have fun with your new CTR!

I just got a CTR in .260. I have shot about 100 rounds through it so far, all from the bench working up loads and the recoil is very mild. Also, since the muzzle is threaded, it will be straightforward to put a brake on it. I have a brake on order since my goal is to have light enough recoil to see impacts shooting prone from a bipod. Don't know if that is realistic or not but will see. I haven't weighed it, but I think with the scope I have mounted and a full magazine it is around 9.5 pounds. That is probably at least a couple pounds heavier than your .243.

Hi Jason,
I just got a T3 CTR with the factory 10 round magazine and wow! Compared to the single stack AI magazines I have on two other rifles, I like these much better. My rifle is in .260 and I seated the 140 grain bullets to 2.85″ as a first attempt and they feed great. I think the seating could be lengthened another .10 and they would still feed but it shot so well I probably won't mess with it. I would definitely be interested in an additional magazine or two if you get them into production.
Thanks,
OB
