Pillar bedding a CTR
Posted by slkzic on December 1, 2014 at 9:25 pmI just recently picked up a Tikka CTR in .260 Remington and ordered the T3 pillar bedding kit with the titanium recoil lug from Lumley Arms. I contacted them to see if it was compatible with the CTR and they were not sure as the rifle has just recently came out. I'm just wondering if anyone has used their kit to bed a CTR. I mounted a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50mm FFP MRAD and plan on sighting it in tomorrow and depending on how it shoots I may not even bother bedding it until spring. I'm going to see if it likes Copper Creek's 130 grain Berger VLD's in Lapua brass. I will be using it to harvest some coyotes this winter.
Thanks,

Hi if it shoots like other CTR's I recon you'll be happy to leave it 'has is' imo

After taking it out to the range for the first time today I decided I'm not going to touch it. I fired 5 to get my 100 yard zero, cleaned the bore out with some Bore-Tech Eliminator, fired a fouler and shot a five round group that I could completely cover with a dime. Most accurate out of the box rifle I've ever shot. I have had $3K-$5k custom rifles that couldn't do that. I love this rifle!

The shot to the right of the dime was the fouler.

Hello all, I also picked up a CTR in 260 last week. Only factory loads I had were a box of Remington 120 b-tips. Shot a 3 shot group at .28 at 100 yd. I am interested in your load. I think I may have duplicated the Remington load or very close. Also tried a few other loads Christmas Day but they were 1″-2″ (5) shot groups. Unbelievable factory accuracy. Let's share what information we are able to help one another.

The ammo I use is made by Copper Creek Cartridge Co. They currently have 7 different offerings in .260. I like the 130 grain Berger VLD Match in the Lapua Brass. They chrono at about 2700 fps if I remember correctly.

I have a new CTR in .260 as well. Amazing rifle! The only load work up I have done was 140g Nosler Custom Competitions with IMR4350. I worked up using the book loads in the Nosler #7 manual and found best accuracy at 40.8 grains (Lapua brass). I have already gotten a couple of 5 shot 1/2 groups with this load. I also have a couple of custom rifles that are lucky to match those groups in the entire time I have had them. Have fun with your new CTR!

This rifle is amazing. I have shot Nosler 123 & 140 Custom Competition Blems, B-tips, and some factory loads. I wish all my rifles shot this well, and we're so easy to work up a load for!
If any of you would like to share your experiences with 130 Bergers (loads or COAL), or 129 Accubonds, I would appreciate it. I would gladly share what has worked well for me. Right now, IMR4064, and H4350 are my favorite powder choices. Bought some RE 17, but not real happy with it. I think you really need to push velocities for it to shine, and I am happy with mid-range loads if they are accurate. Thanks in advance,
Chris- Alabama.
