Has anyone seen or heard anything about these T3 10rd metal Magazines?
Posted by Ericbc7 on November 27, 2014 at 6:37 pmHi guys,
I ran across these magazines while on a search for a long follower to go with the .223 magazine modification discussed around here before. Here is the website for the site selling them Australian International High Power
http://www.aihpa.com/Sponsor/Tikka_T3_Mag_Options/T3.htmBy email, David Waters responded to my query, saying the price for the .223 mag is about US$136 each plus about US$35 shipping (1-3 magazines ship for about $35). I assume the .308 version is similarly priced.
Has anyone seen or heard anything regarding these magazines? They look well made, 10 rounds and allow COAL of 2.6 inches (factory COAL is 59mm, these are 66mm).
Considering that CDI bottom metal is around $209 (free installation at factory I believe) plus shipping charges for your rifle and about $40 for each AICS polymer magazine, these metal magazines are in the ball park price wise.
I would appreciate hearing your opinions on this.

Very interesting design.
I think its on par with Accuracy International magazines. I wonder if alpha industries would make aftermarket mags. -

I have ordered 2 of these mags and look look forward to seeing what they look like. Apparently they don't intend to do another run for quite a while but if someone needs one i might be interested in selling one of them. That is assuming they perform as advertised of course. I will post an update with pictures when I get them.

Keep us updated please…
We are buying a VMC just for producing these in house at a substantially lower price than the two currently on the market.
Any feedback we get before production will improve our initial design significantly.
Thanks!

Hi Jason,
I just got a T3 CTR with the factory 10 round magazine and wow! Compared to the single stack AI magazines I have on two other rifles, I like these much better. My rifle is in .260 and I seated the 140 grain bullets to 2.85″ as a first attempt and they feed great. I think the seating could be lengthened another .10 and they would still feed but it shot so well I probably won't mess with it. I would definitely be interested in an additional magazine or two if you get them into production.
Thanks,
OB -

Just received the above mentioned mags, it's too cold to go shooting but they look good and seat positively. I will post an update when I get a chance to shoot with em.

Definitely keep us posted Eric.
OB,
We are currently purchasing 3 new CNCs so we can add to our product offerings. The one little guy we have and the VF1 can barely keep up to you guys right now! 🙂
Once those machines are installed, we have some fun projects we are going to proof and I think you guys are going to enjoy 😀

I just received my 10 round mag and it looks great! I have not shot it yet but I did load it up with 10 rounds and worked all of them through the action. I am VERY happy with the function and quality.

Sadly, nothing for the magnum or WSM crowd.
Hint hint Jason! 😉

Northernex- I suspect you haven't noticed that Jason & I are both running short mags for match rifles?

I hear you loud and clear Northern.
I've got something up my sleeve you guys are going to love! We are just very behind on current products right now because the VF1 went down…
Three new machines are on their way but until then, I'm trying to keep with everything on our mini mill…
Just know that something very cool is coming down the pike 🙂

Robert , sadly… No. I didn't. I was under the impression you guys favored the .223.
Jason, please…. Let me know when the WSM mags are available… Hell, even a proper 5 shot would be a step forward for my 300WSM.

We will definitely make an announcement when we get them running. The system will be expandable from 3-10 rounds.
This brings up the question of COAL
We run WSMs LONG… And have been modifying mags to make them work.
Should our extended mags fit the factory length WSMs, or allow more length for tuning?
I'm making them For you guys so you should have some input here.

The ability to have a longer col would be nice, so long as the end user knows that to use the long action length mag they would need to install the long action bolt stop.
Myself, I plan on just modifying mine with some “selective” filing. One quick question that I'm sure was asked and answered by you, will these fit factory Tikka T3 rifles?
-

Yep! Factory T3s with no modification… except for the WSMs… we've designed a replacement bolt stop that doesn't cost $45 like Tikka's.
It will come as a kit.

Cool…. Kit form is nice. 🙂
You're gonna have to let me know when they're ready. My only concern is the 10 round capacity. I believe (and I may be wrong) that in Canada, we're limited to 5 rounds in a centre fire rifle. I guess it could be pinned if needed. 😉
