    Hi Al,

Definitely keep me posted on this.  I'm thinking of hiring a gunsmith over here and we are looking at more customizable niche options for Tikka Shooters.  Currently we have a brake we have designed for the Tikka sporters that we are looking to launch here soon.

Your lug design has me very intrigued.  If you can, just email the pics to me.

I think you're having more fun with Tikkas than me!!!

I don't know Al…  Maybe you'll have to have my new Tikka gunsmith put a new barrel on it 😉

If I was shooting any other rifle barrel I would definitely use this system.  We have a customer who shoots for Sierra Bullets and he toured the Sako plant in Finland.

According to him, the barrels straight off the machine looked better than his hand lapped barrels through a bore scope.

They keep a bore scope next to the hammer forger so the tech can inspect each barrel after it cools.

Like I said…  if I was shooting anything else, I think this system would greatly enhance accuracy from a factory barrel.

    Hi Bobby,

You can pm YukonAl and he'll get you all his info.  He actually custom designed the recoil setup on this rifle.

Maybe after a few drinks I could get him to annie up the secret!

Awesome caliber!  We have a customer who shoots silhouette for Sierra and always starts with a stock T3 in 7-08.

Tikka Shooters Forum favicon icon 15 Bullseyes

I modified the bolt stop and magazines on my 270WSM to take advantage of loading the bullet out.

The 243 would be a piece of cake since all you would need is a LA mag and a modified bolt stop.

Here is one I did since I'm too cheap to pay for the bolt stop kit:

Tikka Shooters Forum favicon icon 15 Bullseyes

I've had a sticky bolt on hot loads and even had the extractor blow off of one.

The smoothness is deceiving so once you notice the sticky bolt, definitely dial back the load.  For smaller calibers, definitely do not go above max book load as the pressure curves build faster and are less linear than larger capacity rounds.

    Hi BigB

Accuracy did not improve or diminish.  In fact, the gun in these videos is the one we tested.

    http://youtu.be/WZH_7GzMFSk
    http://youtu.be/RgAxxhUIyok

It's a 223 that can hit a 10″ plate at 1,000 yards consistently so I don't think we lost any accuracy with the Tubb's Final Finish.

I can say that I will not use the full system again in the future.  If I chose to use it on a barrel, I would only use the finishing bullets and not fire the coarse ones.

Tikka Shooters Forum favicon icon 15 Bullseyes

    Awesome caliber!  I'm rather jealous!

That scope is awesome if you need the illuminated reticle.  Otherwise you could save a few bucks and get the HS model that has the same glass but without the illuminated reticle.

We were selling the Viper HS 2.5-10×44 for $399.  I'll have to check pricing but I bet it hasn't changed.

The 30mm tube will give you plenty of internal adjustment (86MOA) and the glass is superb.

I've switched all my glass to Vortex in the last few years and haven't looked back.

The easiest way to get a good set of rings is to put a picatinny rail on the rifle.  Then you are not limited to Sako's Optilock rings.

Here are some great options:  https://tikkaperformance.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=156_59_65

I used to swear by the EGW Tactical Rings but I shot a comp a couple weeks ago and my Viper PST 6-24×50 moved even though they were torqued to spec.  So now I'm a little gun shy.

My SWFA Tactical rings, which only cost me $35, have been bombproof!

Really, once you have the picatinny rail, you can pick from any of the best 30mm rings on the market.

    I hope this helps!

Tikka Shooters Forum favicon icon 15 Bullseyes

Unfortunately, in America, you have to purchase a TRG42 trigger for almost $400 to get the set trigger.

We're playing around with an aftermarket solution but it is down the production list a ways right now.

Tikka Shooters Forum favicon icon 15 Bullseyes

    Al is right.

There is definitely something wrong with your gun.

    Usually the reasons are:
-poor optic mounts (obviously not an issue when using Talley Rings)
-scope (we haven't seen a bad Viper yet even though they may be out there)
    -recoil lug is dented
-action screws aren't torqued to spec

Try a tried and true scope just to rule out the optics as the problem.

Look at the factory recoil lug and see if it is dented – this reeks havoc with higher recoiling calibers which yours is not

The B&C stocks are OK at best.  We have seen some huge QC issues with them typically in the recoil lug area.  It could be that both the factory recoil lug and the B&C lug are not to spec.

You are probably already doing this but Tikka recommends around 50-60 in/lbs of torque on the action screws.  Personally I have found my guns shoot best in the 35-45 in/lbs area.

Long story short I would start with the optics and once that is ruled out, have the rifle sent back to find out what is wrong with it.

I hate seeing unsatisfied Tikka Shooters

Tikka Shooters Forum favicon icon 15 Bullseyes

    Hi Jim,

We are in the process of designing a conversion kit.  It will go with a new bottom metal we are making.

The bolt stop will be offered as a stand alone product as well since Tikka wants a ridiculous $45 for a replacement one.

I'm glad you found what you were looking for!
