I second what Eric suggest…you can fill all your wants if you buy the “Stainless CTR”….

All 308 & 260 CTR's seem to be great shooters.  I've shot several 5 shot groups with my 308 CTR under .5″ @ 200yrds – measured from outside bullet holes…so its a 1/4 or less MOA gun when everything comes together easily…Here's a post of a group I shot awhile back to verify the claims…

A cooling fan will help it cool faster but still not ideal depending on air temperature to do it quickly…Check this one out of you are looking at fans…http://barrelcool.com

My own method …if you are shooting on a burner of day with varmint barrels…

“Finger cots” + ice and bucket of water…but the finger cot over the barrel and dip the barrel stock deep in the ice water for a couple secs , towel dry and place in the rack for a couple minutes…the barrel will even out the cooling effect in a couple minutes down to the action and any water residue or vapour will evaporate quickly.  Guys think your crazy when they see it for the first time but it really works well.  I do this on really hot days and it cuts down my range time by more then half…I've even went out and bought a cheap “laser thermometer” which really helps you know exactly what is going on with the barrel and allows you to begin shooting groups at exactly the same barrel temperature…no guessing by touch or feel.

I would not recommend this to the guy that doesn't pay attention to barrel heat and shoots a full box of ammo and thinks he can dump the barrel in water and walk away….its only to manage barrel heat and help keep a consistent temperature between 3 to 5 shot strings…you are not quenching a super hot barrel.

I was sceptical at first when a buddy told me about this so I heated up a barrel with a heat gun at home one night…got all the stuff and tried it…have not looked back.  It works.

I was torn between the 270wsm and the 300wsm, both are great guns…ended up going with the 300 only because I have an endless supply of 30cal bullets.  You will not be disappointed if you decide to buy a 270wsm, I've only heard great things about it and some of the new bullet bc's are pretty amazing.

Great books by 2 guys with vast amounts of knowledge. 

Litz has some crazy backing and equipment at his deposal…amazing testing and information.
Mighty fine competition shooter as well.

Nathan's approach and information is great, I like the way he translates things…, I love his detailed analyses and testing on actual game…He's a very skilled individual when it comes to rifle accuracy and improvements.  Its also amazing that you can actually get this guy on the phone or have a conversation through email.

If you follow these 2 guys you really can't go wrong…

I can tell you from years of gun buying experience….its always better to wait it out for the right gun and the one you want.

I was impatient when the CTR rifles came out…I could get a 308 same day or wait 6 months for a 260…
I ended up giving in and bought the 308.
Even though I love my 308…Looking back I wish I had taken my own advice and waited for the 260.

Good to know the 22-250 rounds at least cycle in the gun with the combo, but not sure how you got the mag to seat properly with out the slot in the receiver, thinking its just luck that it functions with this round because the mag is not not fully seated in its correct position.  As mentioned it did not feed my 308 rounds with its larger case when I did this experiment.

First range day results…

Had 8 rounds left over from hunting last fall that I worked up for my T3 300wsm Lite rifle.
Tried them today to break in my new T3 varmint after I cleaned and fouled the barrel with a couple factory rounds.

Load data:
Winchester Brass
180 Nosler Accubonds
65.5grs H4831sc
2.85″ OAL

Fired 2 – 3 shot groups @ 100yrds and then shot the 2 remaining rounds @ 200yrds to verify how it was holding 1/4 – 1/2 moa…Group 2 could have been alot better, the high shot was a combination of me and mirage at the range, should have been a 1 hole group or at least a clover.

The gun is a shooter,…will most likely increase to 66grs and play with setting to see if it opens up or shrinks groups, but the results today were very good!  Won't need to do much to tune it and improve the load.

???  Not sure I understand your post…dia is dia, doesn't matter if its a standard or metric measurement.
OP is correct that the threads are 5/8 x 24 for his rifle…

If you want metric dia:
.79″ = 20.07mm
.785″ = 19.94mm

The barrel thickness on my CTR right before the thread protector is .79″ dia.
The thread protector is .785″ dia, slightly smaller…

Both measured with a caliber.  I would go wth the .875″ brake if i were ordering one myself.
Better to have it a fraction larger than smaller.

Have you tried looking for a 223 LH Varmint? 

If Mountain Tactical can't get you a rifle,…Cleaver Firearms will have it but you will pay little more for it.
They normally have both left and right hand 223 stainless varmints in stock.

Could not agree with you more regarding the BEST brake….I have one on my 300wsm…That Kiwi gunsmith  is a very skilled individual… Awesome quality and performance.  He takes the Vais style brake to a whole new level with the custom porting.  Cost a little more but you get what you pay for.  My 300wsm with 180gr bullets shoots like a 223, and I'm not exaggerating…It is by far the best brake I have ever added to a barrel.
