1/2-28 muzzle brake options for 223?
Posted by Lakehouse on June 23, 2016 at 2:52 amJust got my 223 t3 varmint and had it threaded but until I get a can I want to protect the threads. I can either get a thread protector but I was thinking about spending a bit more for a muzzle brake.
Any recommendations?Dog Down replied 8 years, 3 months ago 6 Members · 10 Replies -

Witt Machine makes an inexpensive brake that I used on my 30-06 (clamp on style). It was very effective if a little bit bulky. They make a thread on version also:
http://wittmachine.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=182&zenid=h4jgbcl0l881lt7pc13mink4h0They supply crush washers to time the brake (since it vents on top and sides but not bottom).
I just ordered a brake from mountain tactical for my -06 since I was having the barrel threaded anyway.
There is a fella on accurate shooter forum that has done some good testing on the brakes he sells user name IdahoCTD here is his page:http://www.muzzlebrakesandmore.com/Home_Page.php
Very good prices on his brakes if I recall.I mention these other manufactures in case you want a directional brake rather than the radial one MT offers.

Check out Lantac's Dragon brake
Those look really nice! But a bit more than I wanted to spend as I really want something temporary while I save for a suppressor

Thanks for the links. The Witt machines are the same price as the muzzlebrakesandmore so I think I'll contact that member and order one as I've read good reviews on his stuff. It looks like I'll need to have a gunsmith install it though unless I invest in a vise as all the install videos I've watched show that it's needed.

The guys have mentioned some good brakes for recoil reduction but I have throw the Vais style brake into the mix if you are looking for the best screw on brake for both accuracy and recoil reduction.
For me it's proved to provide the best accuracy time and time again and it does not need to be timed like other ported brakes…not the greatest for pron off the ground but great for bench shooting.I tested many different types on my 308 CTR and 300wsm and both now sport Vais style brakes…

Nathan/IdahoCTD's brakes are excellent, and way too affordable. I almost think he does himself a disservice by pricing them so low. They're really outstanding.

I plan to get one of Nathan's brakes for my 6.5 eventually, mainly to see if I can spot hits with heavy 140 gr loads.

Want to have one of the best , if not THE best (IMHO), muzzle brakes around then take a look of these Kiwi made Quattromax's:http://www.gunsmith.co.nz/muzzlebrakes.html
Brilliant brakes ! And a really, really easy guy to deal with too. -

Could not agree with you more regarding the BEST brake….I have one on my 300wsm…That Kiwi gunsmith is a very skilled individual… Awesome quality and performance. He takes the Vais style brake to a whole new level with the custom porting. Cost a little more but you get what you pay for. My 300wsm with 180gr bullets shoots like a 223, and I'm not exaggerating…It is by far the best brake I have ever added to a barrel.
