New member looking for advice
Posted by zman15 on July 1, 2016 at 11:25 pmHey guys, So I want to get a heavy barrel Tikka in 204 Ruger in left hand. Of course I found out they don't make that model in LH and even if they did I prob could not buy one in the states. So my question is Do I settle for a 223 and buy a t3 lightweight and have someone re barrel it with a heavy barrel? or am I out of luck? thanks for any help!

Welcome zman15,
I see a LH t3 Hunter in .204 at europtic but that has a light barrel – I would check with Mountain Tactical and see if they can find one that fits your needs. Good luck,

Have you tried looking for a 223 LH Varmint?
If Mountain Tactical can't get you a rifle,…Cleaver Firearms will have it but you will pay little more for it.
They normally have both left and right hand 223 stainless varmints in stock. -

Thanks! I emailed them. It is frustrating trying to find a left hand tikka but I think it will be worth it.

I can tell you from years of gun buying experience….its always better to wait it out for the right gun and the one you want.
I was impatient when the CTR rifles came out…I could get a 308 same day or wait 6 months for a 260…
I ended up giving in and bought the 308.
Even though I love my 308…Looking back I wish I had taken my own advice and waited for the 260. -

Build one! It's not much more than the factory model.

That is what it looks like I will have to do.

So after deciding on a 223 I have found the only option is a stainless steel light or a hunter in blued. I really do not a stainless but it seems like that is all they have in 223. By the time I re barrel it and coat it a different color I will have about 14 or 1500 in it before I even change the stock! I am thinking about just breaking down and getting a right hand varmiter for around 800 dollars. :-[

If your going to rebarrel it immediately, you may want to keep looking for a donor action from a used T3 – They are often in good shape and MT can spin on any barrel you like. For example I just saw a T3 light in .270WSM used (looked new) for $499 – obviously won't work for your project but just saying some deals are out there.
I would advise not to go with the RH action if your a lefty – you will curse that thing every time you need a fast followup shot…
Good luck friend, -Eric -

I don't own a Tikka…… yet, but I would for sure stick to lefty if that's what you shoot. If found some on gun broker and other such sites yoh should check out, especially if a barrel is something you want, you'd just need a stock and action to be decent.
As for 223, I think it's a good round, lots of options, lots of reloading data, etc. I have a Winchester 70 in 223, and the options for ammo, subsonic, match, bullets, etc is daunting. Hence my next rifle is going to be a Tikka in 308, purely for options in ammo, especially since I plan on tinkering with suppressed.
Just like you, sorting through the Tikka rifle options now.

I have a savage 110 Tactical in 308 in left hand. It shoots really good I just want a smaller round to mess around with.
