NEW Long Range Budget Build – Done Right!
Posted by Dog Down on June 21, 2016 at 7:14 pmHere's the New long range hunting rifle for this fall.
Jason was able to get the non-dyed rail out to me this week so will shoot it this weekend…THANK-YOU!
Pretty good package for a budget build,… but will add a NF scope and GRS stock in the future.
Just need to shoot it and enjoy it this summer working up loads.
Not the lightest combo but will serve me well for most of the hunting I do…– T3 Stainless Varmint 300wsm
– MT 20moa Non-Dyed Rail
– MT Bottom Metal
– MT Stainless Receiver Screws
– MT Bolt Shroud
– MT Steel Recoil Lug
– NightForce Low 30mm Rings
– Vortex HSLR 6-24 x 50mm Scope
– Flatline Ops Scope level
– MagPul Rail for Bipod
– Titanium Bolt Handle with Carbon FibreDog Down replied 8 years, 8 months ago 5 Members · 8 Replies -

Looking good young man , that rail for the bipod looks interesting, I might have to get me one of those

It's just a Magpul polymer 5 slot rail, works great mounted to the T3 synthetic stock, just drill and run bolts straight through. Have them on all my T3 rifles and have not had a failure or breakage in any condition.
Very durable and goes perfectly with the synthetic stock. -
very nice rig! All you need now is a non-dyed bolt shroud!
How do you like the Vortex HSLR?
I have the same bolt handle and love it!

Nice. What is your total cost estimate for the final “budget build” package? If you don't mind me asking..

The scope is great for the price…its the second HSLR I've bought in the last 2 years.
The glass is not as good as NF at high magnification but you can't beat the price with the no hassle lifetime warranty. Box test confirms they track well and clicks are solid. The bolt handle is such a great buy for fit and finish. Really can't go wring with the purchase.

About $3500.00 CAN for the total parts list…including gun and scope.
The scope might not fit everyones budget build, but I believe you have to spend at least $1000+ to get a decent scope these days… -
First range day results…
Had 8 rounds left over from hunting last fall that I worked up for my T3 300wsm Lite rifle.
Tried them today to break in my new T3 varmint after I cleaned and fouled the barrel with a couple factory rounds.Load data:
Winchester Brass
180 Nosler Accubonds
65.5grs H4831sc
2.85″ OALFired 2 – 3 shot groups @ 100yrds and then shot the 2 remaining rounds @ 200yrds to verify how it was holding 1/4 – 1/2 moa…Group 2 could have been alot better, the high shot was a combination of me and mirage at the range, should have been a 1 hole group or at least a clover.
The gun is a shooter,…will most likely increase to 66grs and play with setting to see if it opens up or shrinks groups, but the results today were very good! Won't need to do much to tune it and improve the load.
