That sounds very uncharacteristic of a Tikka  –  the Nikon is a possibility though.

I've usually been able to “bore sight” a newly mounted scope by looking through the barrel at a large target on the 100 yd range.  Then move the crosshairs to the center of that large target.  When I fire the first shot I'm usually within 7″ of the aiming point.

Obviously your rifle is not properly bore sighted. You aint hittin' where your aiming.

Google “bore sighting a rifle”. If you can't get the scope aiming where the center of the bore is pointing, you need to take up a different sport.

Don't title your post “wildly inaccurate” until you know how well it shoots…when you finally get your scope pointing where your barrel is pointing.

Mine is sitting on the bench. Haven't used it yet, but I'll cross my fingers and hope it doesn't blow up when I do.

You haven't done any harm to the stock…don't worry about it.

But…you may have boinked the bottom metal(plastic). Did you hear any kind of a crack when you reefed on it?

Take it all apart, inspect the bottom metal, reassemble. re-torque to 35 in pounds, and if the bottom metal didn't get hosed, you should be o.k.

Very few, if any, people have perfected pillar and glass bedding a Tikka T3.

I can't help wondering if the .284 is light for Canadian moose.

I can't imagine the number of moose killed with a .308.

Add 10 grains of powder, and you have a .284 WIN.

160 AccuBomb, or 175 Barnes TTSX spells a dead moose. No matter how you look at it. ;D

If the 8″ stamped on the side of the barrel means twist, the .223 Varmint I bought through the group buy last January has a 1:8 twist. Or am I wrong?

You are correct. It means you got a 1 in 8″ twist barrel.

Or I might use one of my .284's with 160 AccuBombs. I bet that'd work. I've been on a couple moose hunts. You just have to put it in the boiler room, and wait for them to lie down.

I might build a T3 in 338 Federal for a moose hunt. I've heard they do the job.

  But this is not the case when you introduce multiple targets when predator or boar / hog hunting.

I've been on many coyote hunts when I've wished I had more than a 3 shot mag in the gun…If you ever have one of those days when you call in multiple dogs you will need more then 3 shots especially if they scatter and run after you drop the first dog.  Still targets are easy to hit but try keeping a running dog in the scope and get the correct lead…Thats when a semi or extra mag capacity will be your friend.

Now you went and made me jealous. I have a crazy hard time getting ONE dog in every 10-15 stands!

But, I gotta admit…3/4 of the time, my AR goes coyote hunting. And in TX…single hogs get killed with the Beast. Groups get pounded with my 6.8 AR.
