Tikka .223 Varmint at Wholesale Hunter

Thanks friend!
You gonna jump on one?
I would, but I just scored a NIB, 8 twist, STAINLESS VARMINT!!! And I'm gonna shoot it until the barrel falls off! ;D
-
No I am gun – poor right now lol. And my T3 Sporter is 1:8 twist as is, if I watched the .223 video of the 1000 yd challenge I would pay half over retail for a 1:8 twist .223
Congrats YukonAl!

Hey YukonAl I recently bought a 6.5×55 Sporter with an eye to most Deer in North America. If I get a chance to do a moose in AL I will go with a .338 mag with Barnes bullets.
Lots of moose taken with the swede, but AL moose are big and why would I limit myself? A good friend went with .338 win mag and put 2 in boiler room of massive bull and he brought home a deep freeze of meat. I'm not kidding, he bought a deep freeze from Home Depot and filled it with meat!
Great huntShipped the freezer home and ate well for over a year

I might build a T3 in 338 Federal for a moose hunt. I've heard they do the job.

He YukonAl. My friend was thinking biggest is best and that guy got a lucky opportunity. He was hunting a gold field with permission and had the best/ hardest hitting round he had available. As much as I would like to deal with big game with my 6.5, I recognize it is not the end and be all of cartridges.
-
Or I might use one of my .284's with 160 AccuBombs. I bet that'd work. I've been on a couple moose hunts. You just have to put it in the boiler room, and wait for them to lie down.

If the 8″ stamped on the side of the barrel means twist, the .223 Varmint I bought through the group buy last January has a 1:8 twist. Or am I wrong?
-
Im seeing sale on Barnes lrx 127 gr 6.5 bullets. I'm thinking these are the way to go. Has anyone tried these?
-
YukonAl, I have sen lots of posts that say a 6.5 will do the job on moose. Let me tell the story of my friend.
He was armed with a .338 mag I think
He was using Barnes Ttsx that grouped well. He was high above the landing strip of the gold camp and was scouting. He saw the moose heading down briefly. He dropped his pack and ran over 1/2 mile to get down to airstrip .
He was stressed to the point of vomiting when he cleared the runway, and the bull stepped out a hundred yards away.
He raised up and pulled the trigger and the bull just stood there. He fired again and the bull took a few steps and keeled over. 2 shots in the boiler room and thank the fates that the gold guys could bring a loader to bring that massive beast back to camp
I can't help wondering if the .284 is light for Canadian moose.

I bought my from Bud's and they had several. After it arrived I ran the serial number and it was manufactured in 2015 so they are making them new again. They also have the same rifle with 10″ twist. Both show the same manufacturer's number, but have a different Bud's number so be careful and read the listing before ordering.

You are correct. It means you got a 1 in 8″ twist barrel.

I can't imagine the number of moose killed with a .308.
Add 10 grains of powder, and you have a .284 WIN.
160 AccuBomb, or 175 Barnes TTSX spells a dead moose. No matter how you look at it. ;D

I would have preferred the 1-in-8 twist, but “settled” for a 1-in-10 at Bud's for about $100 less.Pretty sure the 1-in-10 will shoot pretty well. Got some 50gr. Vmax bullets on the way. ;D Rifle will arrive at local FFL in a few days. Can't wait to shoot it.
Became bored with bolt rifles a couple years ago and sold my two excellent 700 varmints. However, always wanted a Tikka, so sprang for one at Bud's over the weekend. ;D
