.308 is not considered a big kicker. If all you are going to do for awhile is target practice, and not really carry it around hunting, I'd look for a Tikka Varmint in .308. It's fine to get one blued, as you aren't goona find a stainless one. If you can find a Varmint in .223, more power to you. Sometimes they come along.
If you're looking for a T3 Lite, look seriously at a .243. They are very available in both stainless and blued. Very little recoil, and you can be shooting at 400 plus yards with it after a couple hundred rounds, if you have the glass, and an accurate load for it.
Target practice…scope it in the 4.5-14, 5.5-22, or 6.5-20 power range. You will need to put 200-300 yards downrange to really get comfortable with your new rifle, and get familiar with your scope…especially if you're dialing turrets for longer distances. Good Luck!

Still a big secret. I have to hear from Jason first before I go any further. I'm trying to see if they might be able to get something worked out. Jason must be out hunting, I haven't heard from him in a coon's age.

Jason-that's a great looking stock! I'd like to see the bottom of the forend rounded more where it comes up to the barrel (forend tip). It looks too square to me.

vin-don't feel bad. I get the same error message when I try. Almost blew a gasket a couple times, but eventually my veins shrunk and went back into my neck.

Great job fixing your problem! It's always spooky when crap don't come apart when it should. But, ya gotta tear into it. You can always find a way to put it back together. And if ya break it, ya just buy a new one.
The Tikka platform is just wonderful to work with, and so dang user friendly.

I'm pretty sure if it headspaces correctly with a go-no go gauge, he should be good to go.
I have one action that has a .473 bolt face, a long bolt stop, and long mag box. It has been my experimenter. I have had a 6.5X55 on, a .308, and a 7MM-08 barrel on it…just messing around. As each diff barrel was screwed on, headspace was confirmed o.k. with a go gauge and we were up and running.

Thanks for the tip. I got my pic rail off my Super Varmint o.k., when I switched to a 20 moa rail. But they had epoxied the bottom of the rail to the top of the reciever. This is a nice touch you only see the best gunsmiths doing. But, I had to mess around a little to get it off, then clean up with a dremel and wire brush attachment.
Post up some results once you get a good feel for the chassis.

Some info on the scope you're mounting…is needed.
There are lots of options available. I like a pic rail set-up with NightForce Ultra Lite rings. A cheaper, but quality option is Talley Lightweights. Lows work with 40MM and 50MM objective lens. Mediums for 56MM.

I don't understand what you mean by “it feels laminated”. How does a laminated stock feel? I have several lam and walnut stocks, and they all just feel like…wood.
Don't worry, it's the real McCoy, the walnut Hunter stocks are real walnut.

I have a couple in factory Tikka Laminated stocks. They look spectacular. The contrast is perfect. The factory laminated stock is NOT shiny, or…does not have a shiny finish. It's kind of matte.
