Your link requires us to log in to your photobucket account. So…no pics.

I have built more custom rifles on Tikka actions than anyone in the United States. You could say that I know the in's and out's. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Perhaps I can help you out.

    Good luck with your build.

The gear shop here on this website sells some nice rails, also.

I guess I'd try a high power website and see if you can find a 'smith that posts there. Other than that, I can't help. Sorry.

    Jason,

Pick me out one that has nice tight, straight grain throughout, like the action area on the one pictured. That's what I like to see in a wood stock.

An action, a barrel, a lug, and a set of pillars is set aside… 😉

You should go to Lilja's website and use their charts to calculate the weight. You can use their dimensions, compared to yours, and come pretty close. There are some custom barrel makers that have barrel weight calculators on their website.

so 10:1 should be midway witch is where you actually want it

What .223 bullet will a 10 twist stabilize properly, that the wind won't blow all over, that will shoot accurately at 600 yards to make it worthwhile?

All the new .223's recently switched over to the new twist rate. You should be o.k. with a 69rg Sierra, but this is just a guess. All three of my .223's are 8 twist.

I would have a serious talk with your retailer about the specific rifle you were under the impression you were purchasing, and didn't receive. :'(

If you aren't seeing any pressure signs, I'd enjoy the ride…

I still do it the old school way. Shoot and clean after every shot, for 10 shots. Then shoot and clean after 3 shots, for 3-three shot groups. Then shoot and clean after 5 shots, for 2-five shot groups. You should be pretty good by then.

Use a good bore guide, Butch's Bore Shine, plenty of bronze brushes, and hose the bronze brush out with brake cleaner after every time you're done running it thru the bore.

Be patient, it'll pay off in the long run.

No, I just seat the bullets out further, back to touching the lands, and we're back in business.

The problem is, I never catch it until AFTER the championship! I think I still have another 1,000 rounds left in this barrel. Then…I have a brand new Bartlein 28″ Heavy Palma, 8 twist in the safe. 😉

I've gotten bit in the last two state championships by throat erosion. From now on I check every 200 rounds.

I'm losing .020″ every 400 on the Super Varmint.

    Jason,

I've taken my lugs one step further. We've trigged out the numbers and measurements, and now have drilled and double pinned the lugs to the faced off actions on 3 more new actions. (looks like at least 4 more GOM's)

I need to take a couple close-up pics and get them posted. Or, I could email them to you and you could put them up. Either way, it is bad azzed! These take customizing T3's to a new level!

And I have 5 more being CNC'd as we speak. ;D

Tikka Shooters Forum favicon icon 1 Bullseye

I've had it happen in several of my Tikkas. Not a stuck bolt, but a tight-to-open bolt.

And yes, it's a reliable sign…in fact, you're way past safe when it happens.

I use Reloader 25 in my 7Mag, and 160 Nosler AccuBombs. I'm into the lands with room to spare in my “magazine”.

Welcome BigB! You're good to go with the new 708. Try 120 Nosler Ballistic Tips (if you handload) with Varget or Big Game. Then load the freezer.
