Varget. It's been my 708 standby for 4-708's with both 120's and 140's for 7 years.

I put a scope on a rifle and leave it there. Zero at 200 and set the zero stop. I'm constantly shooting between 300 and 600. Dial up, shoot. Return to zero stop. Go to next range/distance, dial up shoot…return to zero stop. Over and over. It's how you get intimately familiar with your set-up.
It completely eliminates all the uncertainties when I'm on a hunting trip and a long rang shot comes up. It's already a habit.
Switching scopes around from rifle to rifle? Too much horsing around.

You have no way of knowing until you try them. But then, that gives you a chance to get to know your rifle.

I had a similar experience about 6 months ago. Bought a B&C stock from a distributer in Alberta and was very disappointed when the stock arrived.
We've been telling people on this forum about that for years. A search would've saved you the trouble.

Can anyone tell me if there is any draw back to a fluted barrel?
Just don't know of any draw backs for long term barrel performance.
Geez you guys are making a mountain out of a molehill. Dog, since you are having a hard time grasping the question he is asking, I quoted him for you. He isn't asking if YOU would want one…or what YOUR only reason for buying one would be. No reason to be rude to Eric, he's just trying to help…just like you are.

Kreiger didn't have a problem fluting the barrel on “The Beast”, and They stand behing their barrels.
And I like the way it shoots… 😉
Let's get practical here, folks. Tikka…1 shot…dead animal…heat/stress…minimal. ;D

It looks like a nice practical stock with a lot of McMillan influence. Should do a .308 Varmint justice. 😉
Don't forget to post pictures after the wild paint job, and barreled action installed. ;D

I tried a box of Sierra 69gr. The only thing I don't like is the short magazine, To get the best accuracy I have to single load the rounds because I have the bullets seated out too far for the mag.
If that's your problem, you need to do some reading on this site. There are all kinds of posts, some with pictures, showing and explaining how to make it work.

Pleopard, that's just an end mill bit in a drill press…and a fancy X-Y vise that moves on two dimensions. 😉
Eric, at least .030″ for some structural strength. If you need just a little more to make room, you'd still be o.k.
Any more, you might as well go the other route.

Paul, you can go the long bolt stop/magazine route (which is the best way), or you can gain .040″-.080″ by opening up the front of the magazine. I always do this if I just need a little.
The magazine has to be perfectly level, and leave some meat up front or the front of the mag will chip out.

When you say “varmints”, are you talking p-dogs, or coyotes, fox, and critters that are charging into the call? That will make a difference.
Predators…lower power on the low end…p-dogs, woodchucks, squirrels, etc., you are good to go.
Those rings show me you have a pic rail, and I don't like those rings because they hack up the scope squashing them on. NightForce Ultralights are excellent. I've heard very good things about the new Weaver Tactical rings, also.
