Eric, I picked one up locally and it worked well. After further inspection the metal wasn't exposed completely but I went ahead and ran one coat. For the most part the flat black matched the factory coating. But I'm also going to touch up my AR now that I have it.
They also make a couple bright colors that come in a set for using on sights which I will be ordering. It will help with picking up the open sights on my pistols, AR, and SKS that I almost can't see the front sight on at all. Guess I should wear the glasses I'm supposed to. Oh well.

I was able to talk to Robert and he thinks there a burr at the top of the feed ramp and said to polish it. That could also explain why at times it's not consistent. I've noticed that the consistency is less when feeding from the factory mag when shooting the original stock than when hand feeding through the ejection port.

All the time. I tried two different Hornady loads. I think it is just the aggressive feed lips on the AICS mag. If this wind will let up I'll find out what the outcome is at the range.

I'm still running factory ammo. So here is what I think it is. For starters I'm being entirely to retentive. I put the action back in the factory stock (don't worry I didn't hurt it) and it does the same when I chamber rounds just not as much. So I think it has to do with the tightness of the AICS Mag. I'll shoot this weekend and if the accuracy holds I'm going to just deal with it but I'll have a poly mag tomorrow so that will stop the brass from getting scratched and probably make it act the same as the tikka mag.

Did you find a solution to your problem? With my TAC 308 I was getting a much smaller version of what you are describing. With the recoil lug, improved more relaxed shooting technique and about 300 rounds through the barrel I'm managing 1/4″ 3 shot groups and without my error 5 shot groups with AMAX factory ammo. Being different barrels I don't know if it helps but mine likes about 40-50 rounds through after a full cleaning before it gets real consistent.

Thanks guys. As always to the rescue. I'll get one of those and touch it up. The video was definitely nice too.

When I got mine earlier this year I remember reading that it could be reversed. I shoot left handed as well and didn't feel like waiting for a left handed rifle, plus I've shot right handed rifles left handed all my life so I just checked to see if the screw would bother me. It didn't so I just ignored it. Probably doesn't help you much but it shouldn't be in your way where it is.

Thanks guys. I didn't know what to expect with the lack of experience but all in all it seemed to be a good choice. All though it's gonna mean no impromptu shots in the woods without taking time to cover my ears. haha

To pile on Dog Down's comments, it's my understanding that the TAC has what Tikka is calling a match barrel and the CTR does not. Correct me if I am wrong. Now I have questioned myself if I spent too much on the TAC because it seems from the reports I have seen that Tikkas all pretty much shoot the same regardless of model or “extras”. I'm happy with my TAC and I will say that my groups stay the same even with a hot barrel. Not glowing melting destroyed it hot just hot as in one more group and let it cool hot.

I like it. Any reviews about fit and accuracy using it?

Here is the link for the manufacturer which is MDTtac http://mdttac.com/lss-chassis-system.html
And here is the link for Coretac who sells the chassis in completed form with butt stock and whatever else doesn't come from MDT. http://www.coretacsolutions.com/products_MDT_LSS_TIKKA_SA_PRS.htm
After a little more research I realize that the chassis is made by MDTtac and it doesn't come with buttstock but Coretac sells it ready for the action to drop in. Seems like a good set up and adfordable.

I like the way you are looking at it. I didn't think about it that way. I will see what I can get my hands on and let you know.
I'm hoping to start reloading soon. Just have to save a little money.

Thanks guys. Pretty much confirmed what I was thinking. It's likely a bit of me and a bit of I need to get into reloading. I'm trying to get more consistent with my trigger pull. I've always shot well but this rifle is a step above my A-bolt that I grew up with. Oh, and I'm shooting from bags.

I changed my lug on the recommendation from Robert at Mountain Tactical (Tikka Performance Store). It changed the shape of the groups a little by making them stack a little more then making triangles. However, as he told me after about 300 rounds there was a small dent in the factory lug from recoil. I'm new to Tikka as well but will change every one in the future. The one from Mountain Tactical fit great and was not expensive at all.

My condolences on the sick rifle. 🙂
