KRG Chassis and AICS Mag – question
Posted by Fightntxag01 on March 26, 2015 at 2:48 amI just installed a KRG X-Ray chassis on my TAC 308 and after cycling a couple rounds to test for function I noticed some copper shavings that appear to have come from the bullet rubbing the feed ramp. I'm assuming the lips on the AICS mag are holding the round down just a little causing this or maybe this is normal and I never noticed before with the factory stock.
Can someone please weigh in on two questions. Is this normal and will I see an effect on accuracy from it.

Hey,
Are you using a full length resizing die?…if so I'm guessing you are not bottoming out the die and the shoulder isn't right. I've had this happen to me before and after I adjusted the die so it bottoms out snug against the shell holder it cured the issue. Use more case lube… it will help cure the problem as well.
One way to quickly test this….if you have empty resized brass from your last resizing routine try chambering the empty case by dropping the shell in the throat with the rifle vertical and then close the bolt. If the bolt is heavy or binding its the shoulder for sure.
Reset the die and resize the same brass, if the bolt now functions normal you have cured the problem.
I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the new chassis or the way its loading….
Now fix the issue so you can send me my new stock well ya!!!

I'm still running factory ammo. So here is what I think it is. For starters I'm being entirely to retentive. I put the action back in the factory stock (don't worry I didn't hurt it) and it does the same when I chamber rounds just not as much. So I think it has to do with the tightness of the AICS Mag. I'll shoot this weekend and if the accuracy holds I'm going to just deal with it but I'll have a poly mag tomorrow so that will stop the brass from getting scratched and probably make it act the same as the tikka mag.

Sorry man, can't help you then.
The only time I've seen this is with improper sized brass.
Does it do this all the time or only on this box of ammo? -

All the time. I tried two different Hornady loads. I think it is just the aggressive feed lips on the AICS mag. If this wind will let up I'll find out what the outcome is at the range.

Not good that its happening all the time…might be a deeper issue.
It shouldn't be marking cases up like that on standard length off the shelf ammo. -

I was able to talk to Robert and he thinks there a burr at the top of the feed ramp and said to polish it. That could also explain why at times it's not consistent. I've noticed that the consistency is less when feeding from the factory mag when shooting the original stock than when hand feeding through the ejection port.
