I would take out the action and new lug, check the pocket for debris and install old lug – checking the original fit.  I am wondering if some stock material got shaved from recoil lug recess when you were tapping the new one in.

if the gap is the same with the original lug, then there is something wrong with how the stock is bedded from the factory.

    Good luck!

I think Sako makes the Quad which is a switch barrel rimfire (although is costs north of $1500).. Couldn't you put an after market 17 mach 2 barrel on one?

    Welcome agar13,
Not sure about the availability of the super light in left hand, but if Jason has access to it I am sure he will chime in.

Yea the 6.5 guys enjoy the sport!  One other point about bushing size, annealing can affect the amount of spring back Thant happens with brass. Work hardened necks may require a smaller bushing to achieve the same neck tension that softer brass would exhibit.  So, unless you anneal regularly, you will want a small selection of bushings to deal with changes in hardness and brand.

Does this mean my “old style” T3's are going to be collectors items? Hehe I'm more interested in how prices for new and old T3's will be affected.

I'm guessing tha Brownells will have a suitable spring, unfortunately I can't help with the dimensions for a few days.

I use a Redding full length bushing die with a .245 bushing and a carbide expander with Lapua .223 brass.  My goal was to size the neck down just enough so that the expander lightly contacts the inside of the neck.  The idea is that with a no-turn neck the irregularities tend to get pushed to the outside by the expander without messing with concentricity too much.

The 6.5 guys weblog explains the reasoning and it seem sound.
    Good luck!

Mountain Tactical is working on some higher capacity mags for T3 oem bottom metal. In the meantime you will have to decide if having a backup mag is worth $70.  One point to consider is that Jason's new magazines might accommodate longer over all cartridge lengths.

Tikka Shooters Forum favicon icon 21 Bullseyes

My experience with Boyd's stocks is limited to the pro varmint model In which I just bedded my b-mag. Jason is totally correct about the marginal quality of the inletting. It seemed that every dimension was off just enough to make trouble.  After 2 days of sanding, chiseling, drilling, grinding and installing the barreled action at least 30 times I finally had that time-sucker ready for the Devcon.  I'm still not totally satisfied with the results (although the Devcon process went great- thanks Dogdown and Yukonal- clean and no bubbles).  I would not tackle a Boyd's stock project again unless I had access to an end-mill.

Save yourself some grief and pay more for quality.
