Any in 260?
Beretta told me last year that they were only thinking of bringing the 223 and 308 to the US.

We just got set up as a US distributor for HSS. Let me know if that's how you want to go and I'll get one for you.
I'm taking one out next to see its effect on accuracy.

Hi Mike
You're right about the short mags seeing the greatest improvement of the bunch. My 165 grain Matrix bullets hang out almost 2 tenths of an inch past the mag in my 270 wsm.
Even the long action rounds have room for improvement. Currently, you are limited to 3.4 inches with the stock mag. My goal is to extend that to 3.6 which is what the action is opened up to allow with no modifications.
Unfortunately, the bottom metal and mag system cut down on the available space there. With innovative rounds like the 338 Sin taking advantage of a standard long action, having the full 3.6 inches will add a huge amount of flexibility with aftermarket upgrades for Tikka owners.

Here's mine with the exact set up you are referring to:

Here's a close up of the scope:

I used an EGW 20 moa base that is available through Tikkashooters.com and Vortex Tactical Rings. I'm not a big fan of the rings because of the metal the screws are made of. I'll probably replace them with a set from EGW shortly.
The scope on here is an ffp, but for punching paper I wish I had the sfp. I have one on order through Vortex that should be here any day.
MOA or MRAD is personal preference. Personally I prefer MOA since MRAD is older technology left over from the Mil-Dot era. MOA just seems to make more sense to me.
Again, just personal preference.

You are one of many Tikka owners, including myself, that are struggling with this. I built a prototype that works perfectly and accepts vld bullets. Currently I am in the process of putting it into production.
Once complete, it will be available in the Tikka Store on the main site.
Stay tuned!

The classifieds haven't really taken off yet…
There are two at my local gunstore. Blued. One standard and one varmint.

Piece of cake actually.
Your smith will need to rechamber the barrel.
The bolt stop will need to be filed back.
A long action mag like you stated and you're good to go.
The standard long action mag might need to have the lips opened up a bit since the 284 is fatter than a 30-06. Other than that it is all pretty straight forward.
Keep everyone posted!

VLD bullets and the standard magazine is a tough combination. Some will work, but some will be too long.
I am actually working with some prototype mags that will allow seating VLD bullets with ease. Currently, I am seating the 165 Matrix bullets to 3.066 with room to spare in my 270 WSM.
On the 7mm platform, you are right that a 280 would be very versatile. What would be even more versatile is a straight 284 Winchester. Same performance as a 280 but shorter so you would not run out of room with 168 or 180 VLDs.
Once these magazines I am working with go into production, it will solve much of the problems we are seeing with limited coal in the Tikkas.

I'll be chasing some golden trout, cutthroat, rainbows, and 3-4 pound brookies.
During that time, I'll also be testing some new backpacking gear and my new blackhawk tactical thigh holster for my 460 Rowland.
Grizzlies are thick up there. I hope to get some pictures of them minding their own business and not mine!

I agree with Jhopkins
My 270wsm has performed extremely well. I'm designing a VLD kit to easily allow the longer VLD bullets that work amazingly well in the Tikka.
Currently I am testing the 165 Matrix 270 bullets that have a bc of .72
The knock down power of the 140 and 150 Bergers is extremely impressive!

What type of optics are you using there?
I had great luck with the 69 grain Sierras too. Bumped up to the 80 grain Bergers, but I know reloading laws are different in each country.

I agree with the cheaper mag option… $65-$70 for the plastic ones is ridiculous! Especially when they don't give you the room to take advantage of the faster twists like the .223.
That's what started this process of building a better mousetrap for less money and more functionality.
