Would you like to see a metal stock replacement T3 magazine?
Posted by Jason_McHann on August 14, 2011 at 4:51 amI am testing some 7075 aluminum stock replacement magazines for the T3 that will accept VLD bullets. What are your thoughts?

I have no issues with the orignal mags.
My main concern is that I wanna have bigger capacity and preferable staggered mags.
7075 would probably work fine.Håkan

I would be in favor of metal magazine. Like the extended length also.

I haven't had any problems, seems more like an aesthetic thing to me..

I would like to see an option cheaper than factory mags.

I agree with the cheaper mag option… $65-$70 for the plastic ones is ridiculous! Especially when they don't give you the room to take advantage of the faster twists like the .223.
That's what started this process of building a better mousetrap for less money and more functionality.

Sure, I would like to see any and all good function upgrades!

If it works with the stock bottom with no smithing and comes in 5/10rd, I'll buy a couple.

Agreed with those above. For me the less than 65.00 bucks part is key. If they're not then I would just buy a CDI metal bottom plate with there metal mags.

I dont have a problem with the plastic magazine, i anything id like to see bottom metal as an option I dont see much wiggle room for longer case capacity, how much more length are you looking at jason? In my opinion a long mag for a short mag is probably as good as its gonna get for tikka, Problem is their twist rates are so slow you cant really shoot super heavy bullets anyway except the fast twist 223 they offer.

The price is not a big concern, 65 dollars or 95, who cares?
the important is the quality.Håkan

Hi Mike
You're right about the short mags seeing the greatest improvement of the bunch. My 165 grain Matrix bullets hang out almost 2 tenths of an inch past the mag in my 270 wsm.
Even the long action rounds have room for improvement. Currently, you are limited to 3.4 inches with the stock mag. My goal is to extend that to 3.6 which is what the action is opened up to allow with no modifications.
Unfortunately, the bottom metal and mag system cut down on the available space there. With innovative rounds like the 338 Sin taking advantage of a standard long action, having the full 3.6 inches will add a huge amount of flexibility with aftermarket upgrades for Tikka owners.

I didn't get a chance to vote on the poll but I'd love to see magazines with a little more room for cartridge OAL. I can't come close to meeting my OAL needs and still use the factory magazine.

Yes, would love to see a metal replacement. At first chance give us a sneak peek.
