Keep checking the primer as you get into hotter loads…S&B's are known to be soft and from my experience reloading the 80.5 bullet and a full case of Varget soft primers are not a great mix.  You will most likely get pierced primers with the larger 4064 charges…

If you have flat primers at 23.5grs – 24grs with signs of flow around the firing pin don't go any further with the test.  You may not even get past 23.5grs without issues.

I had to switch to CCI Br4's during my load development with this bullet. To attain velocities in the 2850-2900fps range (this is where my tikka shines with this bullet) you will need a thicker cup primer…

I've been using this small Hornady sonic cleaner for the last 2 years.  I have about 150 cycles on it now cleaning everything from 223 up to 300winny brass.  I'm sure you can find one just as good for cheaper but the size is great for the reloading bench.

Just a tip for better cleaning…
I use “hot water” with the Lyman turbo cleaning solution, works better then the Hornady cleaner.
Add a drop or 2 of dish soap, and 1oz of vinegar to your cycle and it really improves the cleaning inside the case and primer pocket.  7-8mins cleaning then rinse with clean warm water.

If it was my money the Vortex is a better scope than the Leupold , for just a little more take a look a the Minox Zp 5 or the new Kahles 624i also the Meopta meotac all three worth the little extra spent , if you want to go more to the hunting side Zeiss is the way to go

All great suggestions.  I love the Zeiss HD5 scopes, glass is excellent, very good turrets and the varmint reticle is great for both target and hunting.

I'm very dissapointedwith your customer service. After months waiting for a rifle, your office folks didn't bother to contact my ffl even though they had their info, to request whatever they needed to ship my rifle. Then when I inquire they make me contact the ffl to have them fax you their info, why couldn't you call? Then the rifle arrived and when I go to the ffl to pickup I discover you shipped it with no ffl paperwork as required…hello, wtf? My. Ffl has been calling you but no one answers the phone, you shipped my rifle with a sticky with my name inside the box. Unbelievable. My ffl has never seen anything like it.  You showed me you are not interested in helping a customer. You lost me

Thats a great scope, can't say anything negative about it but make sure you get a MOA turret with it.

Vortex would be the only other brand of scopes in this price range I would suggest looking at…
I have this exact model and its the best buy I have made in a long time…Its a great long range shooting scope and I hunt with it all the time.  The only problem is the 6x …not ideal for big game inside 100yrds but not an issue when you practice with it.

I've been on many coyote hunts when I've wished I had more than a 3 shot mag in the gun…If you ever have one of those days when you call in multiple dogs you will need more then 3 shots especially if they scatter and run after you drop the first dog.  Still targets are easy to hit but try keeping a running dog in the scope and get the correct lead…Thats when a semi or extra mag capacity will be your friend.

Now you went and made me jealous. I have a crazy hard time getting ONE dog in every 10-15 stands!

But, I gotta admit…3/4 of the time, my AR goes coyote hunting. And in TX…single hogs get killed with the Beast. Groups get pounded with my 6.8 AR.

LOL..don't be jealous, we don't have any of that fine TX bacon running around!  I'd love to have the opportunity to hunt hogs on a regular basis…

You gotta come up north and hunt in Ontario Canada, coyotes everywhere! Predator hunting as not caught on in Ontario like other parts of the country.  There are so many coyotes here they are actually a problem in major cities and rural towns…munching on small dogs and cats.  There was actually a guy attacked in a lay down duck blind this past fall…Dam dog actually stalked him from beyond and pounced on his head. The guy suffered some serious injures.  We try to shoot as many as possible all year round to help the Deer population on a parcel of land we hunt.  Its a private 2000 acre property owned by friends with a small hunting cabin.  Great retreat and really good hunting, I'm very lucky to be part of their group.

J gives some great information…everybody has a routine they have either read about or been grandfathered, some are good, some are bad.  Not all barrels are equal or the same so its important to know whats happening and what to look for during barrel break in… and not just copy some planned routine someone as told you about…

I've talked to Nathan Foster on occasion on other topics and he's given me some really good data on 208 amax loading for my 300wsm, a great guy to talk to and a really good shot.  He's an artist when it comes to rifle bedding and his kits for bedding & stabilizing stocks are awesome.  I just recently used his bedding kit on a B&C stock that I'm using on 300wsm action for a moose hunting gun.  His Stabilizing kits work really well for adding weight to Tikka synthetic stocks and for increasing stability…also great for rebuilding stock Tikka mags for longer COAL…

Take one of the power shok rounds and color the ogive with a black permanent marker.
Chamber and extract the round and check for impressions / marks on the bullet,.. my guess is you are touching the lands with that particular type of ammo, thats why you have a hard time closing the bolt.

See attached examples of what to look for.  Sometimes this can effect accuracy in a positive or negative way.
You seem to be on the positive side of things so no worries.

What Eric said…if you can get IMR 4166 it will give you pretty similar results as Varget and is probably the closet substitute right now from personal testing.  Slightly lower velocity but we are only talking 100fps difference with most loads.  Reloader 15 is popular but not the best choice for a stable load if you have Varget or 4166 available to you.

CFE is really good for velocity and accuracy but its not temp stable, I only use it for target shooting in the summer months shooting 55-60gr bullets.  But love loading it.

I totally agree with all statements on mag capacity for most hunting like Deer, Moose, Stag…etc…
A 3 shot mag should do everything you need it do on a single standing target, most times 1 good shot is all you need and the animal is down.  But this is not the case when you introduce multiple targets when predator or boar / hog hunting.

I have friends that hog hunt in the US and they only use semi auto's & bolt guns with extra ammo capacity.
It really depends on the type of hunting you are doing. The CTR will work in any situation with its configuration, its very versatile for any hunting situation.

I set both action screws to 40in/lbs on all my Tikka's….have not seen an accuracy change from 35-50in/lbs when experimenting…

80.5gr Fullbore Bergers & Varget is a very accurate combo!
Somewhere in the 24-25gr range of Varget…2800-2900fps

75gr Hornady Amax is capable of better velocities (2900fps +++) without pressure signs but the tips have been an issue from lot to lot…some lots are not centric, huge accuracy problems.  I've since switched to Berger bullets for most long range 223 shooting because of this issue.

You will love the T3 Varmint , don't second guess buying it if you are looking for a heavy barrel 223.
