t3 lite stainless bolt hard to close
Posted by millhouse27 on July 24, 2015 at 2:44 amI just got back from the range shooting a new t3 stainless in 270 wsm using federal power shok ammo and the bolt was very difficult to close on it. Shot it about a dozen times and my final three shots were all touching which is great but closing the bolt took some real force. I have some federal fusions and some winchester deer season ammo I am going to try in the morning and see if I have the same issue. If I do is this a problem that a gunsmith could fix or do I have to send it back to the factory? I have a t3 lite ss in .308 that shoots and cycles incredible but Im pretty concerned about rounds being hard to chamber on my new one. Any thoughts?

Does the bolt close easily without a cartridge? Be sure to have some grease on the lugs to prevent galling.
Let us know how the other ammo behaves.

I guess it just doesnt like powershoks because the winchester and the fusions had no issues at all.

It did close very easy empty. Even with the empty federal power shok brass it was real tough. It was a huge relief that the other two types of ammo I used this morning cycled so smoothly. Very accurate rifle.

Hey Millhouse, do you have calipers and a means to carefully measure dimensions? I would check the differences between the two brands of ammo.

Take one of the power shok rounds and color the ogive with a black permanent marker.
Chamber and extract the round and check for impressions / marks on the bullet,.. my guess is you are touching the lands with that particular type of ammo, thats why you have a hard time closing the bolt.See attached examples of what to look for. Sometimes this can effect accuracy in a positive or negative way.
You seem to be on the positive side of things so no worries. -
