Hey Nick,

I, too, had to pop out the mag to load every Sierra and NBT. But the 75 A-Max wouldn't even fit up into the magazine port. I had to drop them into the bolt port, take the rifle off the front anr rear rests, point it barrel down-and shake the heck out of it-just to get it to drop into the chamber! >:( Every single time!!!

Now we're gonna have some fun! ;D

I tried using a 308 mag a while back but the feed lips were too far apart to hold the little 223. Happy New Year!

My mag is a 2006 model, altho I doubt they changed them. A .223 case drops into my mag perfectly, and barely touches the feed lips on each side. There is no wiggle room–side to side. Plus, you gain 1/2″ of room in the magazine (toward the rear) to drop a round in. That's something like….[ .500″ ] ;D I think the 75 A-Max is .100″ longer than a 50 V-Max, but don't quote me on that.

All in all, a great discovery for the .223 heavies. I'll take some pics today, and post 'em up.

You're not going to believe this, but I found the easiest solution yet!!! I went into my gun room to get ready to start this project, and just for the heck of it–I had a brainstorm–I pulled out a spare .308 magazine. I slid it into the .223 Super Varmint and dropped a .223 cartridge in. The case fit inbetween the .308 feed lips perfectly–didn't bind, but close enough to feed straight.

Well, the .223 fed perfectly every time I tried it! Over and over.

That's the beauty of the Tikka system! Everything is interchangeable.

So, until I find out otherwise–a person can drop a .223 cartridge loaded with a LONG, HEAVY bullet, onto a .308 size magazine that has been inserted into the .223 rifle–and it will feed perfectly. 8)

The customer doesn't have to. He has the option to send it in for warrantee repair. He chose to try to fix the problem himself. I gave him an avenue to explore. If he doesn't get it to feed, he can still have Beretta fix it.

Simply AWESOME. The pics really cleared up some of the grey areas. I'm gonna buy a spare mag–maybe Jason has one–and go to town. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the effort. ;D

I was at the range today, and got my load work done with 69 Sierra HPBT Match. I can get them to feed, but I have to pop out the mag and load one for every shot. That gets real old. This summer I plan on shooting some F-TR and I need a faster way to load 20 rounds in 20 minutes. This will work great.

Thanks for taking the time to post that. You basically made a false magazine to use instead of the factory one.

I need to figure out a way to get the tip of the bullet (.223) pointing up, because as it sits ontop of the empty magazine, when you push the cartridge ahead, the point of the bullet just rams into the part of the barrel below the chamber. Because the hole for the .223 chamber sits in the center of a “heavy” barrel, there is alot of meat below the chamber hole.

I may try to modify a single shot follower for a Remington, or design something to fit inside the mag, on top of the follower.

Can you share a couple pics, or a brief description of it? How/where does it fit in the magazine? What does the slot for the bolt look like?

I like the RELIABILITY and the simplicity of the Tikka single stack mag. Hope you're keeping it single stack.

2 grains over max isn't unreasonable with a 7 Mag. But 2 over on say, a .243, is asking for trouble. In the last 25 years, I bet 95% of my most accurate loads were about 1 grain less than book max, for that load and cartridge.

Blown primer pockets mean just one thing…

My new Super Varmint likes 75 A-Max's, but single loading sucks. The point of the bullet hits the barrel under the chamber, and it takes an act of God to wiggle it it! I gotta take the rifle out of the bags, and drop the cartridge in barrel-down.

I'm gonna work on something you can load in the magazine, and the bolt will ride over it. Perhaps a modified .223 case. Gotta think about it for awhile.
