Maybe someone could reply with their findings.  If it's anything like my .223 CTR, magazine length (even with AI mags) is the limiting factor.

Some rifles just don't like certain ammo either.  Barrel twist plays a big factor.  Poor mounting of optics, bad optics, bad rings, poor trigger control/follow-through, marred crown, stock rubbing, and many more possible things.  I'd check all and try different ammo before sending back.  I had a buddy chasing zero for a week b/c of a bad optic.  Swap out for proven mounts/optics if you can and try a few different weights of ammo.

For hunting I think they are both fine rifles.  The Winy is a classic and proven.  The Tikka is the best value out there right now.  I don't think you can go wrong with either.  It comes down to if you want a more traditional looking vs. a more modern looking rifle.

As far as recoil, that really comes down to weight and fit.  A heavier rifle will soak up more recoil as it has more mass to move.  That being said, a properly fitting stock will also seem to have less recoil over an ill fitting stock.  Not sure if the Winchester is a wood or synthetic stock, but given the same weight of both, I find synthetic soak up recoil better than a more dense material like wood.  Again, that is given the same weight of both.. if the wood weights more, it will obviously have an advantage in added weight.  I think fit is still the most important.

    Best of luck!
