New Tikka T3 Lite vs New Winchester Model 70
Posted by 6789boat on June 22, 2013 at 11:27 pmI am planning to buy either a new 270Win Tikka T3 Lite or a new Winchester Model 70 rifle. Which has less recoil and what are your comments or experiences with these two rifles please. Many thanks.

First, you've selected a truly outstanding cartridge.
I really like the Tikka T3 Lite rifles but the Model 70 Winchester with the control feed mauser action would be my choice. The triggers are about equal. The Model 70 has a traditional recoil lug design which I also prefer.
The 270 is not a brutally recoiling rifle so I wouldn't make my selection based on recoil. Recoil would also depend which stock in on your Model 70, the wooden ones tend to be heavier thus have less felt recoil.
It's hard to imagine going wrong with either choice.

For hunting I think they are both fine rifles. The Winy is a classic and proven. The Tikka is the best value out there right now. I don't think you can go wrong with either. It comes down to if you want a more traditional looking vs. a more modern looking rifle.
As far as recoil, that really comes down to weight and fit. A heavier rifle will soak up more recoil as it has more mass to move. That being said, a properly fitting stock will also seem to have less recoil over an ill fitting stock. Not sure if the Winchester is a wood or synthetic stock, but given the same weight of both, I find synthetic soak up recoil better than a more dense material like wood. Again, that is given the same weight of both.. if the wood weights more, it will obviously have an advantage in added weight. I think fit is still the most important.
Best of luck!
