I know this is late but I would have sold my truck before I sold that 6.5×55

Got the steel targets set up at 400 and 1100 yards, but got sick and couldn't set up target practice, sigh next year

As I said in my post on other thread I have a 30-06 tikka and can get you the dimentions on the bolt stop.

Great comment, as I understand the 280 cases are a bit longer than most 30-06 based cartridges and are a better source for brass for wildcats than most.
I love your 6.5-06 cartridge and will consider it if my dream of a 6.5×55 improved doesn't develop.
The 280 improved is great long range round but I don't have a “personal” connection to that round.

This doesn't seem to be a hard item to mill, would your gunsmith or a machinist friend be able to reproduce one if you had the dimensions? The tolerances should not be critical if you are ok with non production parts.
I could press mine in wax or something if you needed the basic dimentions.
Otherwise Rodale seems to be a good source. -

Hehe jokes are fine, but unless the 6.5×55 is avail in 1:8 twist and heavier than light (even light) I am not going to be able to get it past the gate keeper.

Clarify please on the bottom metal, is this CDI package? Or a new drop in from you?
Also congrats on the ss lug and it's success, but I was not waiting for that since the one you had was first rate. -

Still looking for more information, but I doubt the recoil lug is the problem. Did you torque the bolts properly?

Sorry if this is not relevant to this subject but I am interested in your pistol endeavors. Where are you from and what pistol shooting do you do? (if you are willing to share).

the 6.5×55 would be my favorite round, if the twist rate on the barrels is capable of stabilizing 140 gr Berger vlds or even 140 hybrids. My Ideal rifle is a 24″ 6.5X55 improved set up for long VLD's.

While there is no way for me to evaluate the quality of your bedding job, if your mag is behaving differently after the job, then the smith needs to solve the problem. If you used a good gunsmith, he will work to fix the problem.
In my opinion, if you didn't do some self mods, a good gunsmith will even fit new bottom metal for cost of parts if necessary.

YukonAl described it perfectly. My 30-06 showed some damage to the lug after 50 rounds or so, and I bought the hard lug from http://www.tikkaperformance.com. My T3 Sporter .223 on the other hand shows no such marks and I don't feel any urgency to mess with the recoil lug. I think it is a factor of recoil although if I get the stock bedded I will probably change out the lug. That said, the high quality replacement part in question is about $30 and should not be the deciding factor in choosing a rifle. The best measure of a factory rifle is Accuracy and fit in that order (in my opinion). If the rifle fits you and is accurate, you can play with the details to focus on either as you like.

I have ordered 2 of these mags and look look forward to seeing what they look like. Apparently they don't intend to do another run for quite a while but if someone needs one i might be interested in selling one of them. That is assuming they perform as advertised of course. I will post an update with pictures when I get them.
