    Figured the screw out! It's for a mirage strap. If you have one of these, DON'T tighten this screw! You will mess up your rail. The mirage strap goes on like a hook, and this screw is factory set.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
    The bolts on these rifles come coated black and are larger than standard Tikka bolt handles. Looks like a rough finish Vera kite to me.
    Guess I'll get with Beretta and see if they'll cross ship me another one.

    Off topic but still relatng to quality control, should the very front screw on the scope rail fit flush? Mine is no where near screwed in all the way, and I don't see a counter sink bevel under the screw head even though the screw is beveled.
