Most guys shoot them as is, or do a simple pillar bedding job.

Pickup a 308 Stainless Varmint, chop and thread the barrel at 20″…
Drop it in a GRS adjustable stock and you will have one of finest rifles you will shoot for under $2000.00!

You could not build a full custom rifle anywhere close to $2000 that will outshoot this setup.
Grab an extra mag or 2 and you are set.

Or you can just by the CTR for $1000.00 and experience some of the best accuracy from any rifle you can buy off the shelf or even build for that matter.  I would put my 308 CTR up against any gun at my range…if everything is going right with conditions its possible to do this at 200yrds.  Its the most accurate rifle I have ever shot and it out shots rifles 10x its price all the time.

I think AK was referring to my situation…not waiting for the 260, at least I can re-barrel my 308 to 260.

You can't go wrong with the 260 if you can't get your hands on a 6.5×55.
I would advise against buying the sporter if you are planning to hunt with it, stick with the synthetic.
They are great for any condition…I would not to expose a sporter stock to some of the conditions I hunt in, they are way too nice!  but thats just me.

The CTR in 260 or 308 is still the best factory gun I have seen or shot to date without hand loading.
Both are capable of 1/2 moa with factory ammo once you find what it like.  And it gets better with hand loads.

Here's a 5 shot group at 200yrds with my CTR 308 (hand loads)…best 200yrd group I have ever shot, and I go through a lot of ammo.  I know I can't shot any better…and guys with 260's are able to get similar results.  1″ groups at 200 are a piss off now after seeing what the gun can do…

You will be lucky If you find one.. What about the 260 Remington??? I would not lose sleep over it if you can't find a 6.5×55….very close ballistics between the 2 and easier to load the short action case versus the long action of a 6.5×55…The 6.5 x 55 has a slight edge with handling a heavier 160gr bullet…

But you don't need 160's in 6.5…I would not think twice about shooting elk with a 140gr hunting VLD or a Nosler 130gr Accubond. The bullets that really interest me are the new LR Accubonds in 142gr…BC of .719!!! or the 129gr with a BC of .561…both are beauties!

I recently bought a CTR in 308 but was really wanting and planning on waiting for a 260… but the 308 availability won versus waiting for a 260….still kicking myself over that one!!!

Great choice of caliber for anything with antlers and paper shooting, I envy anyone who has this gun… but I would have second thoughts using it for large bear…

I shoot a 300WSM for all my hunting pleasures and load it specifically for intended game.

You should be good with any powder that pushes it  to good velocities.

FYI – factory off the shelf 53gr Hornady Superformance shoots 3350fps in my 223 T3 lite and 3390fps in my T3 Varmint (both 8 twist)…They group better if pushed a little slower with hand loads then factory in my guns.  You'll should be right around 3450 out of a 12 twist 24″ barrel with factory rounds.

I've shot the 53gr Amax out to 500yrds in a 12 twist producing 1/2 – 1 moa groups on a regular basis but it really falls off after that  It's one of the best projectiles in a 50-60gr range in all categories.

Try off the shelf Hornady Superformance 53gr if you don't hand load.
If you do hand load, try them with CFE223 and Benchmark in the 3200-3300fps range.

My test results were the same as yours with my 223…the further I backed it off, the better the groups
I tested .010 / .020 / .030 / .040 off the lands and .040 was by far the best and produced the best ES/SD readings…80.5gr Bergers over 24.5gr Varget.

Thats awesome!  I hunt with a Tikka 300WSM as well…Same shot placement as the first Deer I took with my rifle.  Tipped the heart and lungs…one hope with a kick and flop…but your shot was harder for sure.  I hit mine at about 100yrds broad side, I had him in the scope and whistled to him and he stood still like a statue!  180gr Nosler Accubond @ 2900fps folded him up pretty good…Thats my go to round for all hunting.

I love the cartridge, and its pretty easy to reload and accuracy is great.
I bagged 2 Deer and a Black Bear with it this year.  Love the gun and I'll be hunting with it for a long time!

Meant they no longer import them, no longer available…none of the gun shops have any idea if or when they will see them in that combo…importing only the super lite series with synthetic stock to North america.

But they are readily available over sea's….

They'll import another batch at some point for sure but nobody knows when.
I would think because it's rare in the US it would hold a premium until they flood the market.

I'm extremely lucky that there is no powder supply shortage where I live in Ontario…Cabela's and local retailers seem to always have stock.  If it is sold out, which is rare you can always get it within a couple weeks.  I always have 1lb bottles tucked away in emergency…

The Br-2 primer differs from the CCI200 for large rifle is only “select” materials…I have used CCI200 for a couple years with no issues what so ever right up to max loads, but at some point will be switching as well to Br-2 for all loading.  The Br-2 tests I've run have shown it to be more consistent with ES/SD readings at all powder ranges during load development.  Consistency is key of you are group shooting.

The Br-4 primer is totally different from CCI400 for small rifle, not only select materials but the primer cup is thicker and it handles a lot more pressure before you get primer flow or cratering.
Thats way i'm switching to these for all 223 loading,…I primarily shoot 60-80gr bullets with 223 and the CCI400 have been it or miss with various bullet / powder weight combos…

Everything I've tested proves the Br line to be a better more consistent primer, but you won't really notice any difference in the large rifle if shooting groups at 100yrds but it does show differences running rounds over a chronograph so at extend ranges it will help for sure with the consistency.

Info from my inquires say its only available in North America through retailers with Camo or Black synthetic stocks…as the “super Lite” line…

The boys across the pond have the wood stock Hunter option…I'm sure it will find its way here at some point but who knows when that will be…

We can buy and import into Canada quite easily if you want to pay shipping but not sure about you guys in the US…

I only shoot CCI primers…
308 – CCI 200
223 – CCI 400 & CCI Br4 (will be ditching the 400's when they are all gone, cap is too soft for any high pressure load…discovered this with the 80.5gr Bergers I'm playing with…).
300WSM – CCI 250 Mag

T3 varmint (XLR gen II folder, 20 moa MT rail, MT recoil lug, shroud, random muzzle break that I pilfered from our gunsmith, vortex viper pst 6-24×50) shot it's best group last weekend.

Hey Robert…care to share any load data for that 208gr Amax group???  🙂
