Mountain Tactical from my knowledge does NOT offer a billet 223 magazine…only 308 short action and 30-06 long action cartridges…You are stuck with the factory mags or other aftermarket offerings for 223.

I agree Eric there are other a few other powders that will do the trick.  Varget will perform very well in the 80gr projectile weight range and its even listed for up to 90gr projectiles as a top powder performer…so if not Varget them something with similar burn rate I would still recommend.
I guess powder choice would greatly be influenced by availability…

From what I've read approximate 24gr of Varget in a 24″ 8 twist barrel will get you somewhere in the 2700fps range in a 223…thats not screaming fast but if you have previously experimented with 80gr projectiles in a 223, you can fully understand and appreciate the 1000yrd capability of this load.

Bryan Litz (Berger) actually verified that an 8 twist will stabilize the projectile just fine with only a slight decrease in BC from the 7 twist that they based their BC numbers on…so I see no reason why it wont be super accurate out of a Tikka 8 twist.  Might have to play with this new offering in 2020.  Berger is really setting the bar high with all the new projectiles…exciting stuff for handloaders!

Best Hogdon powders I've used for cold weather sensitivity while hunting is H4831sc & Varget…I use H4831sc exclusively in my 6.5 Creedmoor + 143gr Eldx, and in my 300wsm + 200gr Eldx for all hunting loads now.  I use Varget for 223, 308, and even 30-06 reloading believe it or not…doesn't have the greatest velocity in 30-06 with a 178gr Eldx but dam consistent!!!

I just harvested 3 deer here in Ontario Canada last week with my 6.5…all neck shots under 250yrds, zero meat damage.

Leaving next week for a 1 week trip to our Saskatchewan family farm to hopefully get a bruiser of a deer.
Some huge 8 and 10's on camera…might use the 300wsm there just for more knock down power because the deer there are much larger and the shots are usually alot longer.

Will post some pics of both hunts when I'm back.

Most of us have only went as far as the 80.5 berger for testing but i would think the 8 twist will handle the 85gr given the design of the ogive.

If using Varget I'd start with the bullet .030 off the lands and start with a charge weight of 23grs and work up in .2grs increments…once you find node that groups well start playing with seating depth to dial it in.
If you don't have a micro adjustable die & bullet comparator to measure ogive i would strongly advise you get one…will save you money on components in the future and will help you produce the best handloads.

We've had great accuracy with the Barnes TTSX 165gr for factory ammo if you looking for options.
1-2″ @ 200yrds consistantly.

if you do get into hand loading for that rifle hit me up…i can share some intel you will enjoy at the range.

I shoot a 300wsm and have a few buddies that shoot the 300WM so have some experience shooting both platforms.

If you are a reloader I would push you towards the WSM, but seeing as you will be buying factory ammo them the WM for sure…The 2 guys I shoot with that have them are pleased with accuracy using factory ammo but you can dial it in better with handholds like any rifle…they are getting 1moa-2moa with most all factory ammo.  Some obviously better than others.  The 11 twist barrel will stabilize up to a 200-208gr bullet depending on ogive.  The 11 twist will shoot the 200gr ELDx and 208gr Amax extremely well but we are seating bullets for optimum performance…check out post 13-15 in this thread to see how the factory barrel can handle the 200gr Eldx…https://tikkashooters.com/public_html/general-discussion/anyone-playing-with-hornady's-new-eld-eldx-bullets-yet/msg9636/#msg9636

I'm totally in love with the 143gr for my Gunwerks 6.5 CM…44.5gr H4831sc, .040 off the lands and it will shoot the wings off deer flys at 100yrds…lol…

I don't think the factory 9.5 barrel twist will stabilize the Berger 195gr EOL but this is a projectile i would love to see someone do a complete load delvelopement on. Its a sexy bullet!

Hey dog I have the same rangefinder, I have several targets set up at 340, 460 and 930 yds consisting of 24” disk blades and the sig ranges them well and far better than the Leupold 1200.

I switched from a Leupold as well…was never happy with it and expected more from it…the BDX app with the Kilo is amazing…highly recommend it as a very economic long range combo for target shooting or hunting…

I ditched the Leupold a couple years ago when I was on a hunt in Saskatchewan and it would not range deer consistently in varying light conditions and weather, out there we shoot coyotes and deer out to a 1000 if conditions are right and ranging them properly…can't have a range finder that wont work in that mix.
I know a lot of people talk down about long range hunting but thats usually people who haven't put the time in.  With a good gun, drop chart and range finder every shot is like pulling the trigger at 100yrds in my mind.
obviously there are ethical limits but if you know your system and what your projectile is capable of you can set your own limits.

I use the Sig Kilo 2200 and think it the best range finder I've ever used for the money…the ballistics app is also good with it paired to the range finder.
