In my T3 Lite I use only M98 and Ballistol to clean and oil with a rod and patches and good bore guide and use a bore snake without the brush to pull through once or twice on the range before my first fouling shot to clear the oil from the barrel. Both methods have their merits and I cannot for life of me see why I would live without either.
Personally I don't like brushes much and prefer patches but I know plenty of people who prefer them and judging by their rifles' performance it does not seem to negatively affect them.

As for damaging the crown etc it's called gun CARE for a reason.

I am in the process of getting my T3 Lite Stainless .308 licensed. (Massive mission in South Africa) I am considering the same scope for it.

Any feedback regarding this scope would be greatly appreciated.
