Yet again the Tikka reputation proves well deserved
Shot my new T3 Light stainless synthetic for the second time. Tried three different powders and one factory offering and although two only gave acceptable accuracy, one gave IMHO for a 100% factory rifle superb accuracy and one the factory load gave very good accuracy.
Best performing reload thus far was:
180 NBT
67.5 IMR-4831
Fed LRG/RFL Mag Primers
WIN new brass
Chronographed at 2980 MV/FPS six shot average. No pressure signs of any kind.I have to say BIG learning curve on shooting a light 7.3lb rifle W/optics from the bench, VS my usual 8.75-9.7lb M700's, M77's, 116's and A-Bolts. Basically once I figured out my bench form, groups were instantly cut almost half.
Also to everyone who's T3 kicks, if you haven't invested in a Limb Saver AIR TECH recoil pad, I simply can not recommend and endorse it strongly enough. I am NOT at all recoil sensitive, but after 20-25 300 wsm loads from the bench, it starts to get a little old.
To day I shot 24 reloads and 8 factory loadings (180 JSP at 2980) and can say unequivocally the L/S A/T recoil pad tamed the recoil to about the same as my 336C's shooting +P+ reloads that push 180 grain Speer JFP at 2350 fps.
Will start to fine tune the IMR-4831 to see if I cant squeeze ever so slightly more accuracy out of this loading. Not looking for any more speed, I'm happy as tornado in a trailer park with a MV of 2980fps, just max accuracy.
Waited a long time for a affordable T3, more than worth the wait.
