tikka varmint .204 or 22-250
Posted by vixty on March 6, 2015 at 8:38 pmI'm looking to get another tikka and want a good flat shooter. The gun will mostly be used for target shooting. I can't decide between the 204 and 22-250. I'm wanting to go light grain with high velocity.
Anyone have any pros and cons for the two.

IMHO don't get a 22-250 for target shooting it is a good flat shooting round, but when used for target shooting it will burn the barrel out quite quickly

I've got a varmint model in 22-250 and love it. If you're going to be doing long range shooting, the heavier bullet out of the 22-250 will drift less in the wind.

I will be using it for hunting sometimes but I just want some thING that will shoot the 55gr rounds flatter than my 223.

If you are trying to choose between the 204 & 22-250 for target shooting, its almost to close to call with the twist rates TIKKA offers. But if I had to choose, I would take the 204 for reloading cost only.
Both are lasers inside 400yrds…but after that all over the place if any wind with a 40-55gr bullet. My T3 – 223 (8″ twist) will outshoot either at 400yrds and beyond with a 60-75gr bullet…thats why I don't own a 204 or a 22-250…But if TIKKA offered a 9″ twist 22-250 it would be a game changer and a new gun in my safe. -
There is a good video on you tube of a .204 Tikka ( I believe) shooting at 400 yds, sorry I don't have the details.
Add me to the list of those who don't care for the slow twist that most manufactures seem to think 22-250 shooters want. A high bc .75 or 80 gr bullet at 3,200 fps (is this in the ballpark of doable speed?) would be impressive!Anyway, I would like to try a 20, so that gets my vote.
