Tikka Tactical Re-Barrel 223Rem
-
Hello,
I have a Tikka Tactical 223 that is in poor condition, corrosion internally due to the silencer being left on by the previous user.
I am looking to re-barrel it with a Custom Barrel, my primary use for the rifle is Target Shooting with occasional hunting.
My gunsmith recommended a Bartlein Barrel in 8″ Twist. I was thinking a reasobaly heavy barrel around 24″ long.
The round I plan on using is a Hornady 53 grain (BC=0.29) (factory Ammo only, either Federal or Hornady SuperPerformance)
I find this round with a high BC and a fairly high muzzle velocity it is the best for hunting (flat out to 300 yards) and relatively long range target work (500 yards)
The reason I am posting is to ask does anyone know the likely hood of the barrel shooting these bullets, I have worked the stability out to be quiet high, does anyone have a similar setup that likes these bullets? I know ppl have had 8″ twist barrels that will only shoot 60gr or higher even though the 53gr bullets are relatively long compared to others.

On my tikka .223 I’ve got a 12/1 to shoot 52 grain bergers but I don’t think 500 yards would be on the cards for targets , but if like your planing a 8/1 it will give you the chance to shoot 77 grains out to 1000meters should the chance arrive
