Tikka T3 vs T3x
Any thoughts from the experts? There are still a lot of T3s available, often at good prices. But I see the T3x has some improvements including metal rear cover rather than plastic, larger ejection port, steel recoil lug rather than aluminum. I assume the action and barrel are same high quality. The other stuff appears cosmetic.
Is the extra ~$100 – ~$150 worth it…?

It also depends what your going to do with it , like are you going to put into another stock , if you are I'd get the t3 and put the saving toward a scope ( Minox zp5 )

I should have noted I am considering the T3 or T3x Varmint in 22-250. I do not plan to change the stock or do anything else to the rifle.

For me then if I was keeping the stock , it's down to which feels the best in your hands , i would be changing the recoil lug to a after market quality one on a t3 or t3x, I don't think the bigger ejection port will make any difference to your chosen caliber , and I've still got the plastic cover on the bolt after 4 year of shooting , so like I said its down to which feels best in the hand

Thanks for the feedback. It may come down to availability in the end. T3s in Varmint 22-250 may not be that easy to find.
If you have any recommendations on a good scope for that rifle please advise.

For a scope have a good look at the Minox range , several of my friends are swapping their S&B pm11 for Minox Zp5 , I get to use a lot of the high end scope and for my money the Zp5 is outstanding if your budget is not that high have a look at the other Minox's there made to the same standard but built in China , or the next step down have a look at Vortex , I am looking at one at the moment for my Lantac Raven Ar15

My first post on this forum.
As a neophyte F Class shooter, I plan to upgrade from a Savage FTR to a semi-custom rifle.
After listening to some successful shooters, and respected gunsmith, I plan on using a Tikka T3, orT3x action.
A question I've not yet been able to answer is: Are the mounts on both actions similar; would they both mount into the same stock?

The only difference in the actions is the size of the ejection port. They're otherwise identical.

Thanks. I don't know a thing about Minox scopes but I'll check them out. I recall they used to make cameras, if I'm not mistaken.

go for the least expensive – T3 has more metal and I like it for that reason – It just seems logical since I don't have first hand experience with custom builds.
