Tikka T3 Varmint 1/10 twist load / match ammo suggestions
Posted by wrcassell21 on September 21, 2015 at 3:13 amHello, Recently purchased a T3 varmint 223 with 1/10 twist. Have shot 69 FGMM and 69 PPU match after break in procedure with descent results. But I am a hand loader and this is my first 223 bolt and first Tikka. Anyone have this rifle or suggestions to save me wasted expenses on powder, bullets…etc Thanks WC

Guys will have their favourites, Here's mine for both 8 & 10 twist barrels.
Try either of these bullets with Varget. I've loaded these with Win748, and also CFE223… Varget out performed both for a stable load in all shooting conditions. CFE223 provided the best velocity and was also very accurate but it was the worst for being temp stable.
Nosler 60gr Spitzer – 25-25.5gr Varget
Hornady 53gr Vmax – 25-26gr Varget -
My Tikka T3 Lite in .223 with 1/10 twist likes a 69 gr SMK behind 23.2 gr of IMR XBR 8208.

For my 223 Tikka, 1:10 twist, I have found 69gr SMK are tack drivers. I use Benchmark's max load.
One quirk about my rifle is that when you get the barrel squeaky clean, it shoots poor groups. It does not shoot good until it has @ 100 rounds run through it. Once you get it shooting good, don't scrub the copper out. Just wipe it clean with an oily patch to get powder residue out. with this practice I put 5 shots in one hole at 100 yds. I only really clean it when my groups open up, then put @100 rounds through it to season the barrel. Now its good to shoot clay pigeons at 500 yds. -
I recently purchased a Tikka T3 Varmint from Bud's. Ad said it was 1/10 barrel. Was I surprised, when I took the action off the stock, in order to adjust the trigger and saw 8″ stamped on the barrel.
Does your barrel actually have 10″ stamped on the barrel? just curious.

Yes verify the twist.
If you are inclined to long range, let's hope you have the rare 1:8 twist.
If you have the 1:10 twist then push your loads using the 50 gr bullets.
Dogdown is the best resource for tikka I have found, so read his posts and decide after.
