Tikka T3 reliability with strong calibers
Posted by gosbeau on December 21, 2016 at 6:42 pmHi,
I plan to buy either a Tikka T3 or a Sako A7 in 300WM.
As The tikka has only 2 lugs (Whereas the sako has 3) : I wonder if the Tikka is solid/reliable enough as teh caliber is quite strong.
Have you ever heard about any problem on the tikka action / anything broken ? in strong calibers ?I pressume that the sako with its 3 lugs is more solid and also the accuracy might be better on the Sako due to the bolt that is held with these 3 lugs in the barrel …. ?
Thanks in advance you for your feedback … and sorry if my english is not very correct …ElkHamr replied 9 years, 5 months ago 5 Members · 4 Replies -

Hi I've never heard of any problems with Tikka actions because of the power / pressure of larger caliber

I've never heard of any problem with the lugs holding back the high pressure cartridges. I think the main difference between the 2 lug and 3 lug is the 3 lug bolt has less of a bolt rotation. Something like a 60 degree lift instead of a 90 degree lift.

This is a question I have as well…
I am debating weather to go with the A-7 or tikka in 300 WM
Any opinions?
Not really worried about the lugs -

Yes the Tikka will handle any cartridge out there! They're built nearly identical to a rem 700 with the 2 large recoil lugs and same diameter bolt. You can load a 300win mag till hell won't have it and you're going to be the only thing being hurt, not the Tikka action. I'm a speed freak, and load everything to a safe MAX LEVEL but definately hot. My 270WSM love them hot and shoots it's best with compressed loads of IMR7828.
