Tikka T3 Lite 223 – Need Advice
I would like to purchase a Tikka T3 Lite in 223 to be used for varmint hunting. My need is for a light weight rifle that will accurately shoot 50 or 55 grain bullets thus I would like a 12″ twist. Even though the Tikka web site lists a 12″ twist in this model, the gun shop that I deal with tells me that only the 8″ twist version in being imported to the USA. Everything I've read about the 223 states that the 8″ twist is designed for the heavier bullets (60 and up) which I absoultely do not want to use.
My question is this – based on your experience is the 8″ twist version capable of accurately shooting 50 or 55 grain bullets. Accurate being define as in the 1/2 to 5/8″ moa range.
PS: I've reloaded for the 223 for many years but all my current 223's have 12″ twist. I need reliable advise since I can't afford to make a mistake on this purchase – funds are limited. Thanks.

My 8 twist .223 T-3 Lite shoots 50 gr. VMax's into 1″ at 200 yards. Every time out.
And it shoots 55 NBT's, and 55 VMax, and 65 Sierra's, and……..
I've NEVER heard of an 8 twist .223 T-3 Lite that wasn't a hammer. It's one of the most sought after Tikka's there is.

Late reply… but figured I would add my 2 cents.
My first T3 was a stainless lite with the 1 in 8. Shoots 55 Nosler BTs into dime sized groups day in and day out… (when the trigger-puller does his job) I have fired several .5 moa groups out at 300 with those bullets.
Now that the kids are getting of age, when I take them shooting they are fighting over that rifle. Just happened to stumble across another used one in excellent condition… didn't hesitate.
Absolutely no problem getting accuracy out of the “mid-weights” with the 1 in 8 twist.
With that rifle you will get the best of both the worlds… very nice walking rifle, and it will shoot scary accurate.

Thanks for the replies – I think I'm going to take the plunge and buy the T3 Lite Stainless in 223 with the 8″ twist. I love the way the rifle feels in my hands and the action is the smoothest I've ever work. I would have bought this months ago except for my concerns with the fast twist rate but you guys have convinced me.
I'll be starting off my testing with 50 and 55 grain Noslers and Varget powder.
I'll report back when I start shooting which may be in a few weeks.
