Tikka t3 and Sako trg
Posted by southwind on October 12, 2011 at 3:57 amFrom the exterior these actions look identical. Does anyone know the difference?

Side by side, easy to see the differences in machining.
T3: all calibers are long action
TRG: TRG-22 – short action, TRG-42 – long actionLess bolt lift angle in TRG

There are quite a few similarities in action design. Both are ported with an integral rail. The TRG is a 3 lug bolt and the T3 is a 2 lug bolt.
I took a TRG 42 apart next to a T3 and I would guess the actions were milled from the same external design. Only the bolt release and locking lugs drastically differ in the design.
All Tikka and Sako barrels are made on the same machines and tolerances so there is no difference there.
They incorporate the same recoil lug design. Albeit the TRG's recoil lug works better because of the stock. For the difference in cost, I can easily purchase any aftermarket stock I want to make the T3 “more” functional.
If you purchased one of our Tikka Competition Tactical stocks from the Tikka Store, you would have all the adjust-ability of the TRG stock and still only be out of pocket a third of the cost of the TRG.
Of course, the TRG comes in 338 Lapua… Then again, for the cost difference, have Devin Sinner at Sin-Arms build a custom 338 Sin on your T3 action and you'll have 338 Lapua performance for less money.

A little off-topic.
Jason, what your thoughts on the T3 Tactical vs TRG-22 on accuracy?

Honestly they should shoot identical to each other. They have the same bolt head configuration, action shape, and barrel. The only difference is the stock material will take recoil better.

I have never bee able to compare side by side but sure look an awful lot alike at face value.

Hi
Please have a look in this thread;
https://tikkashooters.com/public_html/index.php/topic,78.0.htmlSame mount fits, same Accuracy(freaking good!) same triggerinlet, so you can move one triggersystem to the other gun and a similar heavy sturdy action( apart from length and no of lugs)
