Tikka M595 National Match Course Competition Rifle Custom Alum. Mag. Release Pro
Several years ago, I ordered and received from MT Guns a custom built by gunsmith Mac Tilton a Tikka Master Sporter M595 rebuilt into a National Match Course Competition rifle with a True Flite .223 Target 27in. 1:8 twist barrel, with a Barnard Tikka Trigger. In addition I received a custom M595 Extended Aluminum Mage Release to replace the OEM M595 plastic Magazine Release, along with a OBS (Original Bob Sled) Single Shot Magazine Insert and five Tikka M595 (Beretta p/n:S5849376) 6-shot .223 magazines.
My problem is when I exchange the OEM Plastic Magazine release with its pin & spring on the plastic trigger guard assembly, with the custom Extended Aluminum Magazine Release, both the OBS Single Shot Sled and the Tikka M595 6-shot .223 magazines, they will not snap and lock into position in the stock. If I remove the plastic bottom of the magazine assembly and place the ribbon spring pass the post on the plastic magazine part, the magazine will accept 6 cartridges (Black Hill .223cal. 77gr Match Remanufactured). If I position the ribbon spring behind the post on the plastic bottom assembly, the magazine will snap and lock into position, but the magazine will only accept 3 cartridges, 4 if I force it into position. If I replace the custom Extended Aluminum Magazine Release with the OEM plastic Magazine Release, the Tikka M595 magazines, with the ribbon spring positioned to allow the acceptance of 6 cartridges and the OBS Single Shot Sled both function normally, by slipping into and locking into place.
I haven’t noticed this problem before now, because I never tried using the Tikka M595 magazine or OBS Single Shot Sled, because of my work schedule, but now that I’ve retired, I’ve had time to look at and use my custom rifle. I even tried order a new Beretta p/n: S5840376 Tikka M595 Extended 6-rd Magazine from Beretta, with the same results. When I called Beretta Customer Support, they could offer no explanation other than to use the original OEM plastic magazine release. Do you have any suggestions on how to get the custom aluminum extended magazine release to work properly like the OEM plastic magazine release does?
