Tikka factory rings, use or replace with Talleys?
Posted by ART300WSM on March 9, 2017 at 5:31 pmHello everyone I finally found a Tikka T3 at an acceptable deal and bought one. Been wanting one for years and now I have one. My question concerns the aluminum factory rings. While researching scopes I kept on coming across scathing reviews of the Tikka factory rings when used on a magnum chambering such as mine in 300wsm in that that fail and brake.
Counter reviews claimed if the anchor pin that secures the ring to the receiver is installed properly you should have zero issues, and it is only when people fail to do so they encounter problems.
Any experienced based truth to support the bad reviews I read?
Thanks,

Hi Art,
Welcome to the forum…
I'm also shooting a 300wsm (I have both the Lite and Varmint models) and can tell you from experience you will get scope movement if you don't go with a good quality ring. The factory rings are not that great and you may find yourself chasing accuracy…the factory receiver groove and ring combo will not hold up on your 300wsm…your POI will change and you may actually see scope creep with the factory rings.
I have Leupold PWR's on my Lite model and Nightforce on my varmint…both attached to a MT rail from the Tikka store. Rock solid mounting…

I know of someone who had a Tikka in 7mm-08 and claimed he had zero problems with the factory rings. I have Tikkas in .243 and .223 and so far my accuracy problems are all with the shooter, not the rings. with heavier calibers, it might be a different story.
My suggestion: try the factory rings after making sure they're installed and torqued correctly

factory tikka rings are not adequate
They must be lapped at the least -

Than you all for your replies. Most of the posts that came up as a result of my search prior to posting here recommended Talley 1 piece rings for Tikkas, are the Talleys 100% dependable? I am trying to stay as light as possible so that is my motivation for wishing to trying the Talleys.
Thanks

Art,
Don't worry about a little weight added in the mounting department for the good setup…Take a look at the DNZ 1 piece T3 mount if you are looking for a solid lightweight mount that I know from experience will hold up to the recoil on your rifle…I've installed a few for my friends and have nothing bad to say about it…holds great, with no lapping.

I use the DNZ one piece on a 7rem mag and it has been flawless.

I was faced with the same question and decided to go the picatinny rail and seekins low rings. Rock solid and worth a small premium over the factory rings. Great website to double check scope height is here: http://www.mil-rad.com
They have a great scope ring height and clearance calculator. You will not be disappointed with Seekins.
Good luck!
