Tikka CTR Mag problem
Posted by Aussie D on September 26, 2018 at 9:34 pmGday,
I recently have encountered problems with CTR mags. The mag Spring appears weak and fails to present a cartridge for pick up by the bolt.Very frustrating as it happened on 3 different rifles with 6 magazines on a recent Feral Pig hunt.
Look forward to hearing suggestions!

I've had the same issue with my CTR 308 mag…
If you guys are leaving rounds stacked in the mag during travel or storage it will render the spring useless The spring does not like to be compressed with max rounds and it will loose it compression over time.
Especially if left fully compressed for long period of time…load to 9 rounds and empty completely after use and it will prolong the spring…i'm on my 3rd mag and this is helping. Stupid I know, but I'm tired of buying CTR mags…Another issue with a very expensive Tikka gun mag…at some point they are going to have to address it or it will hurt rifles sales. It is a weak point on this rifle…and they rust soooooo easy…make sure you oil and wipe them down if they get wet.

Yes the springs are absolutely crap!
I've started a bit of a change in Australia and folks are taking mags back to dealers and getting replacements so it's far from an isolated issue.
I have also had a local smith look at the issue and he has sent me some new springs to trial. These should address the problem and if they work I will let folks know.

Update!
A spring change with a reset has fixed the problem!

A spring change? Part number? ???
Not so simple…. Requires resetting with heat as well. When I've got them 100% field tested reliable then I'll tell all.

If enough people complained maybe Beretta/Tikka would send out replacement springs. Like with the bad-design/placement of the A1 QD swivel hole on the stock, if no one complains… ???

Beretta Australia are very hesitant to address this issue at all even when Gunsmiths working in Gunshops report it.
None of mine where bought new, as I fun a CTR/T3X hybrid with a shortened barrel. I run it hard and fast on feral pigs. When you shoot upwards of 90 pigs a day a problem that is their will become apparent.
